CONTEXT AND BACKGROUND

Anjali House has the aim to work not only with the children but also with the community they come from. The program is huge: from assisting the students who have long-term difficulties to helping in developing the community library. Our social worker needs help in improving this

program.

RESPONSBILITIES
  • Conduct interactive workshops in pairs with our social worker
    • Workshops with our students and Future Leaders about self-regulation of behavior,anger management, hygiene, climate change
    • Workshops with the parents about behavior, parenting skills, hygiene, budgeting, screens danger
    • Improve our living values program
    • Create curriculum to have a sustainable impact
  • Expand our connection between Anjali and the community to establish a strong and trusting relationship:
    • Support the Anjali’s connection with local public schools
    • Organize monthly events that gather students and families
    • Expand our community library
    • Expand our bond with other NGOs who run yoga classes or rugby with our students
    • Connect with NGOs partners which have similar projects or services
    • Conduct community and/or family surveys
  • Work with families who request assistance
    • Consult with students and families for any problems/issues: help to find a job, health assistance, learning difficulties ...
    • Conduct family assessments
  • Monitor and evaluate the social work program
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

- Currently studying a degree in social work/completed degree in social work
- Experience working in a social work environment
- Good communication skills
- Flexibility and can easily adapt in unfamiliar situations
- Understanding of child protection policy
- Understanding of different cultures and the specificities of Cambodia


DURATION

Minimum 3 months.

OTHER INFORMATION

  • Volunteers and interns can apply to this mission
  • The volunteer/intern must be covered by medical insurance for the duration of the mission
  • The volunteer/intern shall not receive any remuneration and shall be responsible for covering all costs incurred during the mission as we do not have the capacity to pay for these allowances
  • As this role will involve direct contact with children a criminal background check will be required

Typical day

  • You are expected to be at Anjali House from 8:30am – 4:30pm Monday to Friday. We have many public holidays in Cambodia; hence Anjali House will be closed on these days. Apart from those days off, it is expected that you will attend every day.
  • You can eat at the centre for 1$/day with the other volunteers. The lunch typically consists of rice and vegetables
  • As you may need to access the internet we advise you to bring your own laptop


Free-time activities

During their free time, volunteers can visit Siem Reap and its surroundings. Some places are famous as the Angkor Wat or the floating village. The city is dynamic and there are a lot of things to do during the weekends.

Require­ments

In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.

What's Included

We ask for a one-off donation which provides for administrative expenses for volunteers and to support our programs

Internet Access
Good access at the project site
What's NOT included?
Visa, flights, travel insurance or vaccinations are NOT included in the program fees. An airport pickup isn't included within the program fees either. Please arrange your own accommodation. Food, snacks or beverages are at extra costs.
Flight Tickets
The nearest airport is Siem Reap International Airport (REP) in Siem Reap. We assist you to find cheap flights to Cambodia.
Travel Insurance
Going abroad is an adventure and it is always best to be prepared. Sudden illness or injury, cancellation or theft - a travel insurance for Cambodia provides security and is a plus to have.
Vaccines
If you are intending to volunteer in Cambodia you should seek medical advice before starting your social journey. Check your required vaccinations for Cambodia.

Deposit (15%)
The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.
Final Payment (85%)
Your final payment will be agreed with Anjali House Cambodia during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.
