Teaching and assisting children with special needs and helping them to learn career skills This volunteer program is especially suitable for:
Age 18+

Children are the world, the future of our planet. Quite often, children with special needs are left in the mercy of the bad conditions of society to determine their faith. The ones who are lucky to receive formal education by virtue of their parents financial standing are left idle after school since they do not hold any career skills to make them useful to themselves and the society at large. TrueCorp- Ghana therefore seeks to resolve such challenge by training, educating and assisting children with special needs to read and write, have basic life skills as well as hold career skills that makes the useful in their working age. We believe that getting children with special needs to school is the first stem to changing their view about themselves and the world in general and providing them with the needed support is the right kind of love we can show not them but the world.

Volunteers work with project coordinators and primary school children daily. Other aspect of the programme involves working with youths and household heads of communities.

The project community is peri-urban fishing communities but the project organisational office is in an urban city.

Surroundings at work are basically a picture of a poor community.

Typical day

On a typical day, a volunteers gets to school at 8:30 am and makes necessary preparation for the child with special need under his or her care. The volunteer at 9:00 goes to class to teach the children on the school's curriculum (Maths and English) using interactive teaching method with teaching and learning materials. The class is then splited into section where montisory teaching is practiced: one volunteer, one child. The volunteer assist the child in writing and reading till 12:00 noon break.

Classes resume at 1:00pm where the volunteer moves with the special child to class to learn career skills. School closes at 2:00pm and the volunteer is responsible for making sure that the child under his or her care gets home under pre-arranged procedure between the school, the volunteer and the child's family.
