Highlights

Deliver fun and engaging sports lessons
Teach children the importance of healthy lifestyle and team work
Learn how to manage large number of children
Lesson plan according to a curricilum
Experience day to day life in a township primary school
Participating in sports from a young age has lifelong health benefits, including reduced risk of obesity and so much more! This volunteer program is especially suitable for:
Age 18+
Singles
Couples
Groups
50+
Taking part in this program involves coaching mainstream South African sports in townships that surround the renowned city of Cape Town. This program with volunteer assistance provides a unique opportunity for the the children to take part in such a variety of sports activities and events, due to lack of equipment, skills and general supervision within the township.

The program involves running sports lessons at the township schools. You will be running general physical education classes but you may also be teaching specific sports like football, netball, cricket, tennis, athletics and rugby. Volunteers will: prepare and run general physical education classes and coach specific sports such as football, netball, cricket, tennis, athletics and rugby.

You will mostly be planning and conducting sports classes at the local primary school. Volunteers will work with students in Grade 4 - 7. You may have some free periods and then you will be planning sports lessons or assisting with our tutoring program.

Typical day

- Volunteer work is Monday through to Friday with weekends free to explore

In the school holidays, volunteers will be participating in the school holiday program. The ages of those students vary from 1-15 years meaning we do a range of activities to cater for everyone. This includes arts, craft, reading, tutoring, sports, health, and confidence building among other things.
- Program work depends on the needs of the community at the current time and so we encourage participants to remain flexible

Free-time activities

You will be based a short drive from your project site. Volunteers will be collected each morning and dropped off each afternoon by private vehicle or private taxi.

In your down time you will be free to travel in the local area and can expect weekends off. In this time we advise you could to arrange some of the optional side trips; Cape Town Cultural and Activity Weekend, Stellenbosch Wine Tour, Cape Town Wildlife Safari. Please note that you would not be able to do all of these within a 2 week duration. Before and after your program you could visit the Garden Route or travel up to Kruger National Park – the possibilities are endless!
