Participating in sports from a young age has lifelong health benefits, including reduced risk of obesity and so much more!
This volunteer program is especially suitable for:
Taking part in this program involves coaching mainstream South African sports in townships that surround the renowned city of Cape Town. This program with volunteer assistance provides a unique opportunity for the the children to take part in such a variety of sports activities and events, due to lack of equipment, skills and general supervision within the township.
The program involves running sports lessons at the township schools. You will be running general physical education classes but you may also be teaching specific sports like football, netball, cricket, tennis, athletics and rugby. Volunteers will: prepare and run general physical education classes and coach specific sports such as football, netball, cricket, tennis, athletics and rugby.
You will mostly be planning and conducting sports classes at the local primary school. Volunteers will work with students in Grade 4 - 7. You may have some free periods and then you will be planning sports lessons or assisting with our tutoring program.
Health & Hygiene:
The work we contribute to across the globe remains important and new measures allow our participants to continue to join our programs and continue impacting positively on their world and the communities we work with. Changes to our existing protocols have been made by our health and hygiene team to strengthen our health and hygiene protocols and ensure that international standard safeguards are in place to protect our participants, staff and host communities. Please inquire for more information on the protocols.
- Volunteer work is Monday through to Friday with weekends free to explore
- In the school holidays, volunteers will be participating in the school holiday program. The ages of those students vary from 1-15 years meaning we do a range of activities to cater for everyone. This includes arts, craft, reading, tutoring, sports, health, and confidence building among other things.
- Program work depends on the needs of the community at the current time and so we encourage participants to remain flexible
