Volunteer Opportunity Awaits is a charity organization that was set up Kateregga Jethro who is a teacher by profession.

His aim in starting Volunteer Opportunity Awaits was to help the unprivileged children, orphaned children and youths have a home-like environment rather than an orphanage home to help them have access to better Education, Medication care, parental love and care, small interest-free loans, hands on skills, guidance and counseling and so many more.

Volunteers can always be involved in our various projects we have as a teacher, counselor and so many more skills that the volunteers may have that some of our volunteer program include;

  • Rescue Street Children Program
Children living on the streets of Kampala experience tough conditions. They are abandoned and mistreated, then end up falling victims of physical and sexual abuse. In the long run, they turn to solvent addiction and pick pocketing in their desperation. Most of these children found in Kisenyi; a suburb in Kampala, and along the streets of Kampala.

Kisenyi is a slum area in central Kampala, and is home to an estimated 40,000 people. People living there are surrounded by terrible conditions including; Flowing sewages and heaps of polythene bags. In some areas the crime rate is extremely high. It is under these conditions that the street children we help have to survive.

With  our Street Children Outreach Program, we do organize a session which is always one day in a month or after depending on the available funds. We also carry out activities like serving them special meals, give them an opportunity to express their skills in form of Dance, Music, Acrobatics and so many more. We as well bath them, cut their finger nails, trim their hair, give them free medication services when we happen to have enough medical kit, Volunteers or a medical team that join us towards this cause.

We also adopt and give free Education in our school for those street children who are willing to go back to school and learn. Through this Program we have been able to educate over 100 children that were adopted from the streets and some of them are now corporate employees.

The street Children Outreach Program currently reaches out to 3 street children communities and we have plans to increase on this. But we are limited by man-power and funds.

We have seen a great positive impact within the street children communities we do reach out to and surely we will say that restoration is being achieved through the street children ministry. Among these street children, are their fellow leaders who are empowered to reach out to their fellow children in turn we achieve a greater restoration among this kind of community. Most of these street children will request for food and the biggest need which is to be given an opportunity to go to school again. It is therefore our mandate as a team out here to reach out to such category of people in our society healing and restoration.

While Traveling to Uganda to Volunteering, a volunteer is advised to bring some light and thick clothes for hot and relatively cold season that may happen both in the same day. Well as mosquito repellents for the case of camping.

We need committed volunteers because our volunteers a times work from remote areas and a times suburbs so those areas may a times need someone who is committed to help.

While at the Foundation volunteers shall be staying at the Director's residence that is 24 kilometers from Kampala along Nakasongola highway and will be helped by the volunteer coordinator at the foundation.

Volunteers while coming need to come with light clothes, some sweaters for the rainy season and mosquito repellents for camping since in Uganda our climate is Equatorial it can rain and shine in the same day.
