Become part of a wonderful journey at the Summer Rural Bootcamp, a volunteer home rehabilitation program in Óbidos, a rural area of Portugal.
For 12 days, you will join a group of volunteers, from all over the world, in this Portuguese village to help create a welcoming and cozy home for those who need it the most.
More than 1000 volunteers are divided into teams, with each team placed in a home they will rehabilitate until the program ends. During these days you will paint and tow walls and ceilings, build bathrooms, arrange doors and windows, repair roofs, and much more. All the tasks are going to be supervised by a specialized technician, from our partner Just a Change, that will help you with everything you need. At night, the group will join in fun activities, sharing your experiences and culture.
Days are very busy and start early, but you will have time to rest and to get along with the other volunteers, sharing experiences and enjoying the sunset.
This is an incredible program and a unique opportunity to meet new people and cultures, and, above all, to make a difference in the lives of those who need it most.

About Óbidos
The medieval town of Óbidos is one of the most picturesque and well preserved in Portugal.
Quite close to the capital and located on high ground near the Atlantic coast, Óbidos has had a strategic importance in the territory. It had already been settled prior to the Romans’ arrival in the Iberian Peninsula, and the town prospered after being chosen by the royal family. King Dinis offered it to his wife, Queen Isabel, in the 13th century, and it became part of Casa das Rainhas (Queens’ Estate), who improved and enriched it throughout the various dynasties. This is one of the main reasons for the high concentration of churches in this small place.
You will find a well-preserved castle within the walls and a maze of streets and white houses that are a delight to stroll amongst. Along with the Manueline porticoes, the colorful window boxes and the small squares, many fine examples of religious and civil architecture from the town’s golden days provide a host of reasons for making a visit.
If you want, you can also take some extra time to stay in Lisbon and explore the city before or after the program.
Our team will pick you up at the airport! :)
The place where you will stay does not always have beds, but the mattress is guaranteed. All you have to do is bring your sleeping bag so you are always cozy. The boys stay in one place, the girls in the other and the bathrooms are separated. There are also separate rooms for bathing with hot water, about 2 minutes drive from the accommodation.
You will be provided with breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner. The atmosphere is family friendly and the kitchen is at the "base", so anyone can go to the kitchen and grab a snack at any time. There are options for vegetarians and vegans.
