You are an animal lover and always wanted to live abroad for a while? Why not volunteer for a dog shelter program in Argentina for a couple of weeks or even months?

This is the perfect opportunity for you to increase your spanish and intercultural skills as well as learn about a new country and its people.

You will be working in a team of around 10 other people that are mostly all native Argentines that care for around 25 dogs that they rescued from the streets. The dogs are cared for, receive medical treatments and training so that loving people can later adopt them.

The non-profit foundation relies on external help in form of financial support of voluntary manpower since charitable work like this does not get any financial support by the government in Argentina.

Since the program is located near Córdoba, Argentina, you will have the possibility to easily travel through Southamerica before or after your program.

Typical day

You will be working six hours a day with one free day a week. A typical day will contain the following work tasks:

  • Cleaning the compounds and facilities
  • Feeding and cleaning the dogs
  • Walking the dogs and playing with them
  • Assist during medical treatments
  • Help with adoption process

Note: The tasks may vary. They depend on factors such as number of volunteers, weather, season, current needs of the project, as well as self-motivation. Not every volunteer may be fully involved in all these tasks.

Free-time activities

The province of Cordoba in the northwest of Argentina surprises its visitors with countless attractions, framed by mountains, beautiful rivers and small creeks, plentyful green areas and woodlands, mild weather yearround and its unique landscapes. In and around Cordoba you can find plentyful opportunities to explore cultural and historic sites, bohemian art markets, archeological sites, local cusine and diverse option for outdoor sports.
