Work as a volunteer teacher at a school in Peru and take care of the children. Gain valuable work experience abroad while giving back to society. This volunteer program is especially suitable for:
Age 18+

From years of experience, we know that volunteering abroad enhances one's personal horizons and provides a decent portion of life experience. Our volunteer project in Peru allows you to show social commitment abroad and experience Peru's rich culture first-hand.

In the beautiful surroundings of Huancayo are many rural schools. There you have the opportunity to teach at a state elementary school in the middle of the beautiful Peruvian Andean highlands. Often, these schools lack teachers or opportunities to offer learning and leisure activities for the children that complement traditional school lessons. Therefore, the support of volunteers is very necessary. The 6 to 12 year old girls and boys are happy to learn from and with the foreign volunteers.

Through the work of the volunteers in these schools it is possible to offer the children more far-reaching and alternative educational opportunities. Computer courses, English or art are just examples of subjects that can be taught by volunteers. Expanding education to include this diverse offer can raise the educational level of children who live in rural areas and thus improve their future prospects.

Typical day

During this volunteer project you will be working as an assistant teacher in a rural school near Huancayo. You will be teaching children in one or two subjects but this depends on your abilities and skills.

Usually volunteers teach basic English and one other subject such as art or computer lessons. There is the opportunity to teach other subjects depending on your knowledge. You will be responsible for the preparation of your lessons so if you have any new ideas or suggestions feel free to be creative. Many volunteers also bring in materials to make the lessons more interesting and interactive.

On a typical day, you will teach the children the lessons you have chosen, you will also be given time to prepare lessons, you will also play with the children.

Free-time activities

In your spare time, there is a wide range of activities to choose from, such as playing soccer and other sports in the local community. Most volunteers choose to spend their free time exploring the city and taking in its rich culture. There also are bars nearby where you can go to socialize.

Still an insider tip, Huancaya has become one of the tourist attractions of Peru and has cemented an image of tranquility, community and progress of life well valued by visitors. In Huancaya and surroundings you have lots of options to spend an excellent day off your volunteer work. There are tourist places for any type of trip, whether cultural, fun, family, to relax or sports. Don't miss out on to try typical foods, buy souvenirs or stay on the banks of the river next to lagoons and waterfalls, in the middle of breathtaking landscapes.
