The fashion sector is nowadays one of the most polluters sectors in the world. Tons of clothes are thrown away in good conditions every day, so why not give them a new life? In parallel, in Portugal, and around all Europe the employability of women over 50 is highly reduced. Women who are perfectly capable and motivated to continue contributing to the labor market but whose age becomes an impediment to finding a job. Why not join both and create an amazing impactful project?
In this program, volunteers will join a non-profit and will help and support the local host center in their daily tasks. The tasks are built around designing and modeling clothes models, giving support on their production and facilitation of workshops always in English. The goal is always transforming used clothing, obtained by the staff or donated by third parties, into “vintage” inspired clothing. All these activities are developed under the supervision of the organization’s staff and the woman workers, integrated into the schedule of the project.
After the initial orientation, you will have an afternoon or evening shift at your placement and will work for approximately 3 to 5 hours per day. Please note that start times and daily workload depends on the project that you are participating in. A typical morning schedule is as follows:
08:00 | Breakfast at volunteers accommodation, available until 10 am
10:15 | Travel to placement to join local placement staff and begin work on your project (if morning shift)
13:00 | Lunch in the volunteer's accommodation or somewhere else
14:30 | Enjoy your free afternoon as you wish or to attend Portuguese languages lessons
19:00 | Dinner at the volunteers' accommodation or somewhere else with the other volunteers. After dinner, you will have the remainder of the evening free to relax and use as you wish
Please note that the actual schedule can change according to the shifts volunteers participate in.
