Age 18+
Wheel Chairs
A group of female artists who sell recycled and natural handmade products such as clothing, bags, jewelry, cosmetics and foods, form this young and innovative project. Everyone has their unique talent and craftswomanship. They build this collective to help each other, work in solidarity and sell their products in a small shop that quickly became a center of cultural exchange. Sustainability, care for the environment and restoring a sense of community are core values to them and their work. They organize trade fairs to reach more people in the community and their way of life/work reflects their wish to grow, to learn, to stimulate, to realize "artistic emancipation" and promote fair trade. There are various ways to support this endeavor. They can use help with marketing, advertising, management of social networks, communication of their values, the acquisition of new customers and the business organization. Only Spanish is spoken in this project and your involvement depends highly on your own motivation and proactive attitude. The women are cordial and make you feel welcome, but they all have different work to make ends meet and therefore no time to guide you on a daily basis.

 Possible tasks:

  • photograph the products
  •  help with the online-shop and marketing
  •  help out with books and administration
  •  PR and social media
  •  give workshops within your expertise of craft – depending on your Spanish skills
  •  Experience this one of a kind creative enterprise

Typical day

In the morning, after you had breakfast at the volunteer house and you catch the fruit vendor on the street, so you buy some fruits before you leave the house. You decide to walk to work, because it's just 20 minutes and it's a nice day outside. At this time the trufis (the common public transport) are stuck in traffic anyway.

Today some women, decided to take part at an art fair in one of Cochabambas cultural cafes. You wrote the invitation for them on their Facebook page. You help to pack products and tables but before you get there, you realize that you forgot your camera at home. You were meant to take pictures and write a Blog for a travelling site in your home country. So you head back home and meet your colleagues later. They already set up their stand, but visitors drop in late. You decide to interview a tourist couple in your insta-story and take photos of the fair. It's getting late until you get back to the shop and all of you decide to have dinner together instead of unpacking the boxes.

You get home around 9PM. A long day, but if want and there is still some energy left, you work the photos you took earlier to post something about their work on the projects Facebook page or you write an E-mail to some local stores in your hometown that might be interested in collaborating.

Free-time activities

In Cochabamba you can find hospitals and western doctors, supermarkets,  good mobile signal and a vast cultural life.
