Highlights

Be a Wildlife Sanctuary ranger, monitor animals in the rainforest, have physical contact with wildlife in the farm, the sanctuary and at the local Rescue Center.
Lose yourself in the beauty of nature and enjoy exploring Costa Rica during our tours and your leisure time down at the most beautiful beaches of Costa Rican Caribbean side.
Live and work within a remote indigenous village, learn from a traditional Awá Shamán (an ethnobotanical indigenous doctor) and get your dose of adventure exploring hidden waterfalls or doing rafting.
We offer plenty of varied workshops. Have a night walking tour in our wildlife sanctuary, do a self defense or thai masssage course or learn how to build a typical indigenous house.
We speak fleunte English, Spanish, German and Japanese, and even some BriBri! To improve your communication skills you will learn some Spanish during your time here.
As volunteer, we will teach you all about sustainability and how to coexist with nature in our agroecologial farm, our wildlife reserve and the indigenous reserve. This volunteer program is especially suitable for:
Age 18+
Singles
Couples
Families
Groups

In line with goal 13 of the global goals for sustainable development of the United Nations we educate our volunteers or groups on how to coexist with and preserve nature in our world near Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica. Fulfilling this, we work with you in our permacultrual farm (34 hectares), our private wildlife sanctuary (over 500 hectares) and the BriBri indigenous reserve. In your working time (5 hours four days a week), workshops like ranger training, animal training, sustainable installations, natural healing plants, indigenous culture are an inherent part of the program as well as the full-day weekly tour is.

Dive into the magic of the southeastern Caribbean side of Costa Rica with us. Get to know all the incredible natural beaches, visit a shaman and experience a full ceremony (dancing and singing) with him. Do a kayak or rafting trip in the BriBri reserve and sleep in tipis during night or even better explore some hidden waterfalls.

We are more than good connected in our area. We are good friends with our partners, like the shaman. This lets you experience even the BriBri culture from another perspective as you are not another random tourist. The personal contact and attention for our volunteers is beyond what we try to reach the most important factor for us, that is why Ken Tiemann the Owner and Founder itself will do most of all activities with you. We deeply believe that volunteering should be beneficial for both side. With your help we can assure that we protect and safeguard this incredible piece of earth. In return, we want you to get unforgettable experiences and memories as well as deep knowledge about our nature and culture. We really want to educate you on things you are interested in which is why we will ask you about your expectations to ensure that you really learn what you wanted since ever, be it a self-defense course, a thai massage intro or fruit wine making.

As mentioned, our program is super varied. Doing a two-day ranger training and helping in the BriBri reserve as well as doing our weekly tour in their reserve, would mean that you are only one day on our beautiful farm. Having a normal day at our farm you will be finished with the official program at 3 pm and free to explore Puerto Viejo, the beautiful beaches or the many magnificent little stores or yoga retreats down at the main beach road.

Even the weekends are all yours. You can stay and help at the farm or sleep down at our beach house and enjoy the Caribbean vibe in Puerto Viejo visiting astonishing tropical beaches or other national parks.

Staying at Planet One World you are getting personal attention, full board as well as accommodation, and an organic fruit flatrate ;-). You will work with animals or even re-introduce them into wilderness. Be surrounded by wild toucans, hummingbirds, monkeys, frogs, sloths and so much more animals on our farm. By planting endangered plants as well as so much varied fruit trees we are offering all (endangered) animals are safe habitat and you the possibility to get to know a whole new world.

If you are already curious to get more insights into what we are up to the next month, we would love to have a personal chat with you via Skype. Just leave us a message.

It is all about a sustainable future in which we deeply believe.
Be part of it, we would love to show you our world!

Best,

Hannes & Ken

Typical day

As mentioned early, each day will be different and unique. A normal day from Monday to Thursday starts at 7:15 am with the common breakfast. At 7:45 am we discuss with the volunteer group what we want to accomplish. From 8:00 - 12:00 am we try to meet the set tasks always focusing on enriching your knowledge about the things we are doing. From 12:00 - 2:00 pm it's lunch & rest time, before we are fulfilling the last little tasks until 3pm so that you have time to spend the noon down at the beaches or enjoying our peaceful farm with all the animals on it.
Each Friday we organize an unforgettable day trip in our beautiful area, making sure that you are getting to know the most beautiful spots as well as the indigenous culture of the southeastern Caribbean side of Costa Rica.

Free-time activities

We are offering plenty of other activities.
Workshops like self-defense, kick boxing, thai massage are mostly taking place after dinner as well as our night walking tours where you can see a lot of species in their natural habitat. The ranger training means that you will surround a huge part of our private wildlife sanctuary sleeping in one of our ranger camps or at one of our neighbors houses. We teach you survival skills as well as how you have to behave in a tropical rainforest. This activity is actually working time, so you can still be excited about the all-day Friday tour. We will visit other national parks, having barbecue at our favorite beach Punta Uva (check it out on the web), visit a rescue center, attenting a natural healing plants workshop, explore hidden waterfalls in the BriBri reserve climbing up some rocks, going rafting or kayaking on the big river and attending at a shaman ceremony (singing ancient songs and getting taught typical dances).

In your free time you can explore the magnificent Caribbean beaches as well as the Caribbean lifestyle on your. Down at the main costline road you will find plenty of sweet stores as well as some yoga retreats nestled in between incredible deep nature.

Details on arrival

We are quite flexible regarding your starting date. Normally the program starts on Mondays, but we are considering all circumstances like flights for each volunteer.
Unfortunately we are already completely full during eastern (semana santa) 14.04 - 21.04.2019. The rest of the year we are still having some rooms left, and we would be delighted if you fill them with your spirit.
Flying in to Costa Rica, San Jose we advise you to take an Uber or Cap to the bus station where you take the bus to Puerto Viejo. There are tourism shuttles directly from the airport, but they are not much faster and will cost you 4 times more than the bus as well as they are not really comfortable. No worries we will help you with booking the bus. In Puerto Viejo we will catch you up from the bus station and introduce you to our world.
