The Tasmanian Devil Population is at risk and declining at a very rapid rate! Struggling with a deadly cancerous and contagious disease spread through their saliva, and by these creatures being super fiesty, the disease is spreading fast and easy among all Tasmanian Devils throughout Australia! In Tasmania efforts are being taken to stop the spread of this deadly disease and to prevent the same from happening as it did to it's extinct cousin, the Tasmanian Tiger!

Venture to beautiful Tasmania and become involve with a day to day operations of a Tasmanian devil care and wildlife center. The aim of the project is to care, breed and release Tasmanian Devils back in to the wild. This gives volunteers the unique opportunity to work with Tasmanian Devils and increase their survivability. The project also cares for other animals like eagles and other birds, kangaroo's and Quolls.

Typical day

As a volunteer at the project you become part of the team and help in the day to day activities of a wildlife care center. They are involved with the breeding and release of Tasmanian Devils to help these animals at risk. You will have some of the following responsibilities:

  • Initial training, orientation and health and safety requirements
  • Animal feeding
  • Cleaning
  • Ground maintenance – trimming, raking, etc
  • Wildlife studies
  • Opportunity to progress doing animal presentations
  • Assistance and training on tour guiding
  • You will learn a great deal about Tasmian Wildlife in general.

Free-time activities

The project is located in a Park and volunteers will be placed in accommodation located on the project site therefore, volunteers may get a chance to partake in any activity the Park offers however, this cost will be covered by the volunteers themselves.

Require­ments

In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.
Language Skills
You need to speak English (basic level)
Required Documents
CV, Resume, Letter of Motivation, Two Pics and Signed Policy and Liability form (provided during application process)
Nationality Restrictions
No restrictions. Helping hands from all over the world are welcome.
Time Commitment
Your helping hand will be required on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 07:30 - 17:30

What's Included

  • Private room in Cabin or trailer near the project.
  • Meals are not included but transportation to the nearest grocery store will be provided.
  • You will be picked up from the airport and transferred to the project.
  • ongoing service and on location emergency support

Airport Pickup at Launceston Airport

You will arrive in beautiful Tasmania where you will be met at the airport by the transport team and will then be transferred to the volunteer project.

Accommodation

You will have a private room in either a cabin or trailer near the project. There will be a kitchen and laundry facilities. We will provide a bike for you to peddle to the project and back on a daily basis while you soak in the beautiful surroundings.

What's NOT included?
Visa, flights, travel insurance or vaccinations are NOT included in the program fees. Food, snacks or beverages are at extra costs.
Flight Tickets
The nearest airport is Launceston Airport (LST) in Launceston. We assist you to find cheap flights to Australia.
Travel Insurance
Going abroad is an adventure and it is always best to be prepared. Sudden illness or injury, cancellation or theft - a travel insurance for Australia provides security and is a plus to have.
Vaccines
If you are intending to volunteer in Australia you should seek medical advice before starting your social journey. Check your required vaccinations for Australia.

Deposit (15%)

Final Payment (85%)
Your final payment will be agreed with Fronteering Travel during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.
