The program
This fantastic program was developed to improve the education of children in the beautiful city of Jaipur. The aim of this teaching and assisting in schools program is to help lay the foundations for a better future for each child by providing a solid educational base for students. Volunteers will teach and assist local teachers across a range of subject matter, with a particular focus on the English language. As a busy tourism city, skills in English are seen as integral for future employment prospects. A solid education can lay the path out of poverty for many, with volunteers greatly assisting on this road. Love Volunteer’s aim for this important program is that it is a mutual exchange of skills and experiences that enriches both parties. Volunteers may find that they learn as much from the children as the children will learn from the volunteers!
Goals of this Project:
How you can help
Volunteering to teach in India will be a hugely rewarding experience for any international volunteer. Students will learn a great deal from a native English speaker, along with the local teachers who will find the tuition and conversational skills helpful to their own English language skills. Volunteers on this program will adopt the ‘Play-Way’ method of teaching. The aim is to create a playful environment and enhance the creativity of the children through painting, playing games, singing etc. Volunteers working with pupils in classes 1-5 will assist teachers in delivering the English and mathematics syllabus, alphabets, counting, days of the week, months of the year, manners, writing practice etc. Volunteers will also help to deliver hygiene and environmental education. Volunteers will spend their time assisting the local teacher with daily activities, and will spend time teaching and playing with the children. They will contribute in a number of ways and can expect to undertake the following tasks:
Volunteers are met on arrival into Jaipur and taken to the volunteer house where they can meet with their hosts and fellow volunteers. The following day an orientation session is held to introduce volunteers to the programs and their new environment. The session will cover safety, transportation, basic culture and history and is a chance to get to know other volunteers and the local team and ask any questions you may have.
Volunteers can also arrive into Delhi and transport will be arranged to Jaipur by our local team at a cost of around USD90.
Volunteers on this amazing program are comfortably accommodated in a Volunteer House in the safe and well-regarded district of Bank Colony, 30 minutes north of central Jaipur and close to the placement location.
Rooms are shared with dormitory style (bunk) beds. Bathrooms have western-style facilities and air-conditioning is provided for comfort during the summer months (April – October). Bed linen is provided so volunteers need only bring personal toiletries and towels.
A well-equipped kitchen is available for volunteers as are communal areas for relaxing and socializing. WiFi is available in the house free of charge.
Volunteers are provided with lunch and dinner daily at the volunteer house throughout their placement and clean, treated water is readily available. Breakfast is self-catered and can be prepared in the communal kitchen. Local markets, laundry facilities and shops are located within easy reach of the house and the local team will help to point these out during the orientation.
Jaipur is in the Rajasthani district of India and the food in this region is internationally renowned, particularly for its vegetarian chutneys, lentil (dal) based dishes and delicious savory snacks (known locally as chaat).
Jaipur also has a number of cafes and restaurants serving a range of international dishes so there is something for every palate.
