Dubbed as the next Raja Ampat, Mandeh boasts stunning natural beauty known to only a few. Consisting of small islands, the area boasts white sand stretching along the coastlines, towering cliffs over the water, and lush forests covering its land.

In this program, you will teach English to local youth representatives in informal classes as a way to empower them with skills that will benefit their personal growth as well as others'.

This program is part of an effort in developing the ecotourism field in Mandeh. It aims to prepare locals in receiving international visitors and minimizing the language barrier in interactions with local businesses, as well as day-to-day life.

Bask in the picturesque landscape of Mandeh as you learn more about the tight-knit community that strives to reach their best potential by opening up their home and culture for explorers all over the world.

When you arrive in Indonesia, you will undergo an all-day orientation to prepare you for your volunteering experience in this country and to minimize the impact from cultural differences. You will also be provided with basic Bahasa Indonesia lesson.

Throughout this program, you will be staying with a local host family. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to experience the local culture first-hand, and learn more about the rich history and traditions in the island!

Typical day

Welcome to your project! On the first day, you will undergo an orientation on your intercultural experience ahead. The orientation includes introduction of organization, intercultural learning and cross cultural orientation, managing hopes and concerns, basic Bahasa Indonesia, rules and regulations, and emergency procedures. You will also be briefed about your volunteering project by the project staff. At the end of the day, you will depart to your project location and meet your host family.

On the project site, here will be an induction, and then the volunteering activities will commence. You will be acquainted with how the organization works, and the tasks you have to handle as a volunteer. You will be conducting informal English classes with local youths in the town hall. The lessons include basic English, as well as any topics that may be relevant in their respective workplace. You may consult with the locals on the topics they need to learn.

During your free time and weekends, you are free to explore the area and experience the local culture as you wish!

On a monthly basis, you will have a 1 to 2-hour session with fellow volunteers and staff to discuss your experience so far, and how to move forward with your current situation.

Before your departure home, you will have an end-of-stay orientation to reflect on your experiences and how it affects your perspective.
