About the Program
Being a volunteer at La Comunidad Que Construimos is an incredibly rewarding experience and a unique opportunity to make a difference in the lives of children and their families here in Trujillo. You will work with an official NGO, dedicated teachers and educators that have now served the community for years. We see the English Teacher role as crucial to the success of our organization, as our volunteer teachers provide children with the necessary tools to build their self-esteem and confidence through our educational programs and workshops in the Alto Trujillo district on a daily basis.

Benefits of volunteering with us:
Teaching takes place each day at set hours between 10:15-12:30, Monday - Friday, in Alto Trujillo. You will teach kids aged 6 to 12 years-old in groups of up to 30 children. There are 6 primary levels in total, of 2 classes each. Each class is assigned a local qualified primary teacher; unfortunately none of them is able to teach the English curriculum.
After teaching, you will attend and lead our after-school program, which is a great way to reach out to the kids who regularly miss class, and to improve school attendance through fun activities such as cultural exchange, sports and self-esteem workshops, between 1pm-3pm.
We welcome volunteers throughout the year!
Our Program Director will come and fetch you wherever you arrive: at the airport or at the bus station in Trujillo.
Full induction and on-going support is provided both in English and Spanish.
As a touristic place, Trujillo has several locations to visit and enjoy. From ancient constructions such as Chan Chan or Huaca del Sol y la Luna to wonderful beaches such as Huanchaco or Puerto Chicama where surf is very popular, Chicama has the longest left wave in the world.
Trujillo's city centre is also a beautiful place due to its colonial buildings and architectural constructions including La Plaza de Armas. In the city centre there are also nice restaurants, shops, bars and cafes. Trujillo has 2 big malls where you can buy almost anything that you want as food, clothing, etc...
If you want to buy cheaper products, there are several traditional markets that you can go to. Huanchaco, the most popular and touristic beach in Trujillo, offers fantastic sunsets and landscapes, great waves to practice surf, beach volleyball and other sports.
At night, Huanchaco turns out to be the best place for partying in town, with nice bars where you can learn to dance Salsa, Bachata and Reggaeton while you hang out with friends and meet friendly people. Trujillo is the third biggest city in Peru and has plenty more attractions to enjoy...
As it is in a strategical location, it is very easy and cheap to travel around. Within the city the main transportation mean are buses and taxis, the buses cost 1sol which is around 0.30 US dollar and taxis cost between 5 and 10 soles (1.52 - 3.04 US dollar) according to the distance. Do not miss the opportunity to enjoy the semi tropical weather of Trujillo and have an amazing experience volunteering with us!
Accommodation is included.
We will meet you at the airport or the bus station at your arrival.
We all live together in the volunteer house with WiFi, drinking water, laundry, shared kitchen, shared room and shared bathroom with hot water.
