Gain practical experience in the early childhood development field, while being based in the city of Cape Town, South Africa
This volunteer program is especially suitable for:
Working with children while they are in the early developmental stage provides them with a foundation to excel later in life, and gives them an opportunity to succeed that they may not have had otherwise. Utilize your theoretical learning to implement specific foundations, including teaching concepts such as number sense, number concept, number development, spatial orientation and spatial insight, among others.
Educational support is one of the few things that can make a vast difference in the lives of these children and your work on this program with allow you to make a direct contribution to their lives and futures. By volunteering on this program, you will also get right to the heart of the needs of the community and work in collaboration with them to help realize help young educational and sustainability goals.
As a volunteer you will work with children at 5 different nurseries to best meet the needs of the community. You will be involved in planning and implementing a project which uses educational games, song and dance, arts and crafts, gross and fine motor co-ordination and story telling to allow these children to have fun whilst learning and developing at the same time.
The ages of the children are 3-6 , however the number of children and ages present depends on each child's circumstance at a given time.
Health & Hygiene:
The work we contribute to across the globe remains important and new measures allow our participants to continue to join our programs and continue impacting positively on their world and the communities we work with. Changes to our existing protocols have been made by our health and hygiene team to strengthen our health and hygiene protocols and ensure that international standard safeguards are in place to protect our participants, staff and host communities. Please inquire for more information on the protocols.
You will be based a short drive from your project site. Volunteers will be collected each morning and dropped off each afternoon by private vehicle or private taxi.
In your down time you will be free to travel in the local area and can expect weekends off. In this time we advise you could to arrange some of the optional side trips; Cape Town Cultural and Activity Weekend, Stellenbosch Wine Tour, Cape Town Wildlife Safari. Please note that you would not be able to do all of these within a 2 week duration. Before and after your program you could visit the Garden Route or travel up to Kruger National Park – the possibilities are endless!
We also include local/cultural activities once a week for up to 8 weeks.
These activities may include:
- Experience a shisa nyama
- Visit Africa's largest art collection
- Take a sunrise beach yoga class
- Snorkel in a kelp forest
- Paddle with endangered African penguins
- Try a sunrise cold-water immersion
- Visit UNESCO World Heritage Site Robben Island
- Hike up Table Mountain
