The project
The Nuru Pre- and Primary School is a private Tanzanian school for children ages three to fourteen years. The kids under six years are being taken care of in the preschool and are taught in English, mathematics, reading and writing. The preschool introduces every new day with an educational game or song.
The primary school takes care of about 70 students up to class 7. Here, the students learn all common subjects like maths, Swahili, English, history, science, art, sports, geography, biology, chemistry, life skills, and others. Both schools are located in the same compound so that you can choose one school or be active in both projects. You can support and assist the teachers of Nuru School, and you are able to introduce some lessons yourself. The teachers will support you and welcome you to their school.
Please keep in mind that schools in Tanzania are being run differently than in your home country. Things like corporal punishment and poorly equipped classrooms are the norm.
Your work
The school is located only 15 walking minutes from the volunteer house, making it very convenient to walk there every morning. Since both pre- and primary school are located on the same compound, you can pick and choose a classes in accordance with the head master.
