Our volunteer program is located in Santa Tecla, La Libertad. We teach English to public schools where the students come from families who are economically disadvantaged. This volunteer program is especially suitable for:
Age 18+

Teaching English Program

Before offering a volunteer experience, Teaching You wants to invite you to travel to El Salvador and learn about yourself and beat your own expectations. Teaching You is an initiative created not only by former volunteers, but by people who have long-term commitments toward changing lives.

The project

In our program, we don't work with poor children. We focus on children rich in values and happiness, those who are proud of their families but facing financial disadvantages. They are in need of knowledge for a better future, to change the route of El Salvador with education and new skills.

The program runs all all week, morning and afternoon, offering the opportunity for volunteers to obtain real teaching experience while working directly with children, organizing lesson plans, evaluating results, and acting as role model to them.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for volunteers to teach English in a public school. At Teaching You, we value our volunteers. We provide dedicated support to ensure that our volunteers are able to transition smoothly and adapt to the local lifestyle and culture.

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and native English speakers. We expect volunteers to be creative and proactive. Volunteers must conduct themselves in a respectful manner and treat people with respect and dignity. Volunteers should present the attitude of service towards others and seek to understand and appreciate the local culture. and conservation biology.

Typical day

As a volunteer, you can expect to teach up to a maximum of 6 hours per day with the weekends free.

There are 2 sessions in the school:
Morning Session - 8am to 11am
Afternoon Session - 1pm to 4pm

Program Activities / Tasks to be undertaken by a volunteer
  • Organizing materials and supplies to be used in  classes
  • Preparing lesson plans
  • Teaching
  • Checking notebooks
  • Presenting weekly reports
  • Monthly evaluations and reporting the grades to school

Free-time activities

During your free time in Santa Tecla, you can spend your time “chillaxing” at the volunteer house, getting to know the town, travel to the beach, mountains, and volcanoes or visit the nearest country like Guatemala or Nicaragua which is 4 to 6 hrs away from the city by bus.

If you are interested in having a healthy lifestyle, you can start your morning on a normal school day by going to the nearby park called Cafetalón or gym to exercise. You can also drop by a bakery for breakfast or go to the market to buy groceries. For lunch, you can have it at home or choose from various eateries nearby the school.

From school, you can walk to the central area of Santa Tecla to access the bigger market or take a bus to a mall for shopping. Visits to the mall “La Gran Via” are recommended on Wednesdays for the cheaper cinema prices and 2 for 1 sushi

In the evenings, you can visit Paseo El Carmen that is located a few blocks away from the volunteer house. The street offers a variety of restaurants and bars.

You may also choose to travel to a nearby country before or after the program. In the last 10 years, volunteers normally backpack all through Central America as it is a cheap and unique experience.

We would be happy to support and provide you with information if you need advice or suggestions for safe and fun activities.
