The Volunteer Vietnam program gives volunteers the opportunity to teach English, Arts, and Sports to the children and English conversation to local teachers in Da Nang. This volunteer program is especially suitable for:
Age 18+

Teaching English is one of the most common jobs for expats in SE Asia, and teaching with Volunteer Vietnam is an excellent introduction to the role. Because we don’t require prior experience, volunteers won’t be leading classes on their own unless specifically requested. You will be paired with other volunteers and VV staff to give lessons and provide conversational practice. These placements are also a great opportunity for trained teachers to develop their skills in a new setting. Volunteers are pleasantly surprised by how attentive Vietnamese students are – they are eager to learn and show off their English skills.

Volunteer Vietnam has three English teaching placements:

  • Teaching simple vocab to kindergarteners aged 4 – 6
  • Teaching basic conversational English to teachers and social workers at our partner centers
  • Teaching basic vocab and conversational English to teachers and students at the school for children with special needs

Kindergarten Placement:

Volunteer Vietnam works with 2 local kindergartens: Hong Nhung and Hoa Sua. Together these two schools serve 200 students from disadvantaged areas. Due to limited funding and resources, these schools have no English teachers on staff. Our program meets that need and provides vital access to education with a focus on simple vocabulary and short phrases. Volunteers really enjoy this placement working with the kids and seeing their confidence soar.

Local Teachers and Social Workers:

We also provide English lessons to teachers and social workers at the Social Support Center. The program for teachers and social workers focuses heavily on conversational practice and effective pronunciation. Many of these individuals at our partner centers work hard to improve their communities, though they themselves have had little access to English education. We bridge that gap by providing English lessons and encouraging practice with our volunteers. This enriches the experience for volunteers and center staff alike.

School for Children with Special Needs:

Volunteers will provide English lessons to teachers and the students in this school.  The students have a wide range of disabilities, such as being blind or deaf or having Down Syndrome, autism, brain injury, Cerebral Palsy.  Teaching focuses on conversational English for the teachers and vocabulary and pronunciation for the students.  The teachers at the school and the Volunteer Vietnam team will help you in preparing lessons for the students, giving you advice on how and what to teach the disabled students.  The students are eager to meet volunteers and enjoy practicing their English.
