About the program

These childcare projects are situated in the town of Vic Falls, Zimbabwe - they currently have between 65 - 80 children, all between the ages of 3 - 6 years. These children come from a variety of home situations and standards of living... some live in the town itself, while others live in extremely rural villages located on the outskirts of the town centre.
The kindergartens face numerous challenges on a daily basis, including lack of infrastructure and resources, lack of sufficient funding, constant municipal electricity and water-cuts and shortages, as well as high child-teacher ratios. Because of teacher shortages, only basic language and numeracy classes can be conducted. Volunteer help enables these facilities to offer a far more comprehensive education including aspects such as art, sport and music.

These falls, located on the border between Zambia to the north and Zimbabwe to the south, are known to locals as Mosi-oa-Tunya (“The Smoke That Thunders”) - they have since given rise to Victoria Falls town (Zimbabwe). With a population of approx. 36 000, the town’s economy is heavily dependent on the tourism industry.
