You will be responsible for all project volunteers in Arequipa. You will be the main point of contact for orientation, support and coordination of all volunteers. This volunteer program is especially suitable for:
Age 18+
As the Volunteer Coordinator you will be responsible for all project volunteers (national and international) in Arequipa. You will be the main point of contact for orientation, support and coordination of all volunteers. This role is extremely important to our organization because volunteers adjusting to the cultural differences and getting settled into their projects can be a challenge. Maintaining close relations with all our volunteers is the key to being successful in this position, as you will play a central part in their experience volunteering with Intiwawa.
  • Coordination with the German and Peruvian team of Intiwawa, especially with the General Director and Project Coordinator, as well as Recruitment coordinators in Germany and Perú.
  • Be the point of contact for future and current volunteers
  • Welcome new volunteers and provide orientation
  • Support and coordination of all volunteers in the project
  • Organisation of volunteer events for team-building
  • Mediation between field volunteers and committee members
  • Excellent written and spoken English and Spanish
  • High level of motivation, initiative and confidence
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution, and intercultural communication skills and ability to work in multicultural, collaborative environment
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to new environments, resourcefulness, and sensitivity to cultural differences
  • Ability to work effectively both individually and as a member of a team
  • The position is voluntary (unpaid) and part-time (around 30-35 hours/week)

Typical day

As the Volunteer Coordinator you are still supporting in our main project "Tareas", with is Homework support. It's hard to give a typical day description, because the days may differ from each other. Here`s a "normal" day description: 

  • 10-11AM: Meet with the new arrived volunteer and give them kind of an overview over the project, a typical day description, important information about the city and answer their questions. 
  • 12- 12:30AM: Gather with the other volunteers to take the bus to San Isidro.
  • 2PM: Arrival at San Isidro (Casa Intiwawa) where the projects take place. Introduce new volunteers to their tasks, show them the place. 
  • 2-3PM: Play with the kids, prepare the afternoon and have lunch with the kids
  • 3PM-5PM: Homework support and reinforcement with the kids
  • 5PM-5:30PM: Supervise the kids cleaning their teeth and say good bye to them
  • 5:30-6PM: Clean and orden the house and the yard
  • 6PM: Take the bus back to the center of the city. The return journey by bus is also done together. 

Some days you might me picking up some new volunteers at the airport, so you won't be able to join Tareas every day. 

Free-time activities

Arequipa is one of the most largest citys of Peru and provides a wide range of possibilities for your free time activities! Sports, as well as cultural events and sightseeing are only some examples. You can also use your free time to travel and get to know the country a little better. 


In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.

What's NOT included?
Visa, flights, travel insurance or vaccinations are NOT included in the program fees. An airport pickup isn't included within the program fees either. Please arrange your own accommodation. Food, snacks or beverages are at extra costs.
Flight Tickets
The nearest airport is Rodriguez Ballon International Airport (AQP) in Arequipa. We assist you to find cheap flights to Peru.
Travel Insurance
Going abroad is an adventure and it is always best to be prepared. Sudden illness or injury, cancellation or theft - a travel insurance for Peru provides security and is a plus to have.
If you are intending to volunteer in Peru you should seek medical advice before starting your social journey. Check your required vaccinations for Peru.

We are searching of a Volunteer Coordinator starting in February 2022. Details about the arrival date will be set individually with the recruitment team and the General Director.

If desired, someone of the Peruvian team can pick you up at the airport in Arequipa.
