Age 18+
Honey bees are responsible for over 80 percent of the world’s produce, yet its population is on a dangerously steady decline. With our partner organization in Bali, you will get the chance to help protect these tiny threatened creatures and the environment they rely on to thrive.

In the NGO’s headquarters in southeasterly Sanur, you will work alongside fellow bee campaigners on developing a project plan, crowd funding campaign management, social media marketing and admin. But, that is not all. The volunteering project will also take you all over the island as you help set up and develop the West Bali Plan Bee Centre and visit other beekeeping farms on the island. You might also be asked to help develop training support tools and lead workshops with the local farmers there.

Best of all, you will meet people from various backgrounds and communities, and bond over the passion to save the environment by taking care of the little guys!

Typical day

Welcome to your project! On arrival, you will be picked up by a local staff/volunteer and taken to your accommodation to rest. You must have had a long journey, and you're best prepared for the orientation the next day!

You will undergo an orientation on your intercultural experience ahead. The orientation includes introduction of organization, intercultural learning and cross cultural orientation, managing hopes and concerns, basic Bahasa Indonesia, rules and regulations, and emergency procedures. You will also be briefed about your volunteering project by the project staff. At the end of the day, you will depart to your project location and meet your host family.

On your first day, there will be an induction, and then the volunteering activities will commence. You will be acquainted with how the organization works, and the tasks you have to handle as a volunteer. You will work with fellow volunteers and staff on community engagement, development plans for the beekeeping farms, or even have a first-hand experience of beekeeping on-site!

During your free time and weekends, you are free to explore the area and experience the local culture as you wish!

On a monthly basis, you will have a 1 to 2-hour session with fellow volunteers and staff to discuss your experience so far, and how to move forward with your current situation.

Before your departure home, you will have an end-of-stay orientation to reflect on your experiences and how it affects your perspective.

Free-time activities

In between the volunteer work, participants can enjoy immersion activities to explore the beautifully captivating Bali. Learn more about the rich and vibrant Balinese culture by spending time with the locals. Discover the local history and mythology in their arts and souvenirs, which can be found in the local markets. During the downtime, volunteers can unwind at one of the sprawling, pristine beaches or lush rainforests that the island has to offer.
