Care for wildlife that is caught in the illegal animal trade. Help the Centre to rescue and rehabilitate the wildlife before they are released back into the wild. This volunteer program is especially suitable for:
Age 18+
Singles

Groups

The Wildlife Rescue Centre is dedicated to rescue and rehabilitate animals caught in the illegal wildlife trade. The Centre now houses several animals that are either unable to be returned to the wildlife or are currently waiting to be returned. Hence, the Centre acts as a halfway house before the animals are translocated or a permanent home to the few that cannot be returned.

Volunteers will have the chance to work directly with the Centre's vets. They can ask questions, observe and assist when needed. Apart from that, volunteers will be helping the animal keepers to care for the many animals at the Centre. The Centre has a wide variety of animals such as the gibbons, macaques, sun bears, orangutans, pythons, turtles, eagles, hornbills, cassowary and more.

The Centre, however, is not a zoo. The public is not allowed to come in to view and interact with the animals. The only access that the public can get to the Centre if they are working at the Centre, are volunteers or are groups on educational trips. This is to ensure that the animals have minimal human interactions as possible and only when necessary.

Volunteers help are necessary and very much welcomed to care for the wellbeing of the animals and their enclosures. Join us and help us care for these vulnerable animals.

Typical day

Volunteers will start as early as 7.00 am and end their working day at about 3.00 pm. Volunteers will be making rounds with the animal keepers the whole day in order to clean the enclosures, make enrichment and give enrichment to the animals.

Volunteers will also aid the animal keepers in preparing food and giving food to the animals. On Wednesdays, volunteers will help to teach the local kids conversational English. The local kids are always more interested to learn from volunteers and this increases their chance to improve their English.

On a special night every week, volunteers will be invited to have a meal at a local's house. Volunteers will get to have a taste of real, authentic Javanese meals cooked by a local during Javan Dinner. This is also a great time to learn more about the host and their community.

Free-time activities

Volunteers can go and explore Java during their free time. We also have books and board games at the Centre. If a volunteer would like to start mini projects or wish to work during their free time, we are open for suggestions and discussions.
