SB is working with a local clinic. Volunteers can work in the maternity & in campaigns to raise awareness on illnesses contracted by mosquitoes This volunteer program is especially suitable for:
Age 18+

Sustainable Bolivia is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in the Bolivian Amazon that partners with local initiatives to provides resources that support ecotourism, regenerative agriculture, health and education. Volunteers and interns are placed with partner NGOs throughout the country, namely in and around Riberalta, Bolivia.

The health system in Bolivia lacks funding and staff. The facilities are often basic, the clinics mostly attend to minor emercigencies and routine visits. As a volunteer or intern in the healthcare sector you will be able to observe many types of health issues while working in facilities that are very different to what you are used to back home.

SB is working with a small local clinic which is welcoming interns and volunteers. Volunteers and interns can work in the morning in the maternity and in the afternoons help out in campaigns to raise awareness on illnesses contracted by mosquitoes.

The volunteers will be working with the local staff and nurses.

Typical day

  • Work together with the nurses in the mornings
  • Prepare a plan of action and activities for the children around games, books, drawings, etc.
  • Support in promotion campaigns outside of the hospital in the afternoons
  • Support ordering up and listing the needs of the program in terms of medicines and playing material
  • Organize a fundraising for a specific project
  • Look for public and private funding
  • Create content (photos, videos, articles, 1 pager, etc.) to promote the initiative

Working hours: 9am to 12 and 3pm to 6pm

Free-time activities

In their free time, volunteers can enjoy a lot of activities around Riberalta such as enjoying the nature of the Amazon (tours, trekking) and the animals, enjoying the rivers (boat tours) or the swimming pools close-by. It is also very easy to go to Brazil where you there is a lot of amenities for shopping.

If volunteers want to travel, there is a lot to see in Bolivia itself (easily accessible by plane) such as the salt flats, the Titicaca Lake, the cities of La Paz, Sucre and Tarija (this last one for the wines), the mines of Potosi and of course its incredible nature and the parks around Santa Cruz (Amboro) or Samaipata, and around Villa Tunari.
