The project is designed to train small scales who are engaged in agriculture in skills such as maize,village chicken,moringa,soya beans and vegetable production. This volunteer program is especially suitable for:
Age 18+

We are looking for people who can come and work with to train small scale farmers in rural areas.The people needed in this program are those with the knowledge in conservation farming and able to facilitate workshop.The volunteers are also expected to teach small scale farmers on how keep records of their farming activities,teach them entrepreneurship,health matters and how to save money.In addition,the volunteers will participate in Child health immunization outreach activities.In this activity,volunteers will be working with ministry of health staff in visiting communities of small scale farmers to give under five health services to children of the farmers.Volunteers will be expected to participate the distribution of agriculture inputs of small scale farmers during farming season. 

Typical day

Our days begin with morning office briefings of the activities for the day, Thereafter,assignments are shared among the volunteers and organization staff.The groups are sent in the field to visit various groups.During field visits lunch is provided and during training activities,volunteers have lunch together with community members.Volunteers will usually return to the office in afternoon and the day end there. 

On Saturdays you will have time to go out and visit tourist attraction areas,cultural events,if there is any taking on that particular,watching football,visiting palaces for traditional leaders and many other activities which a volunteer chooses.

On Sundays,you are expected to go to church and thereafter,volunteer is free to rest and do his/her private activities.

Volunteers must come with an open mind and be prepared to work with and experience another culture. 

You will have the chance to experience a diversity of tasks. Please be aware that tasks may vary depending on the time of your arrival and your own preferences.

Some of the tasks include: 

  • carrying out field visits to communities
  • Participating in child health week immunization campaigns
  • taking part in community projects such as SILC,distribution of nutritional supplements and distribution of agriculture inputs.
  • helping out in the fields monitoring of our members 
Volunteers will also be expected to help with works at the office during working days.Volunteers need to be innovative and come up with new ideas which can implemented by our organization.

During child health week campaigns,volunteers will be expected to accompany the Ministry of Health staff in child health outreach in rural areas.

There will be times when volunteers will travel to go another province where we are currently training Neighborhood Health Committees to participate in immunization campaigns.This is a very interesting journey because the place has areas where there is wildlife,so it is a good area for game viewing.

During traditional ceremonies,volunteers will be given time to go and witness the activities taking place at the ceremonies so they can learn the Zambia culture.

Volunteers are expected to participate in education tours where we visit our part organizations to learn about the activities conducted by other organization.

Volunteers are expected to participate in meetings called by partner organizations such as planning meetings and many other events called by other stakeholders.

Volunteers are expected to teach our staff and community members the culture where they are coming from so that Zambian communities can learn new cultures too.

Volunteers will be taught local language words on how to greet and many others basic words to easy their communication.

Free-time activities

During the volunteer program, there will times when the volunteers will have a break from the usual activities and have free time to go out to tourist places such falls, Game parks,stadiums,Museums,Music concerts.Our organization will arrangefor a tourism trip to go the tourist capital of Zambia (Livingstone) where the volunteers will have time to view the Victoria falls (one of seven world wonders).In addition, the volunteers will also have an opportunity to go to game park (Kafue National Park) to view animals popularly known as the big five (such as Elephants,Leopards,Rhino,Buffalo and Lions).

The team of volunteers will also have an opportunity to visit annual cultural ceremonies for various tribes in Zambia which take place every.At these event there are traditional musical concerts which will give the volunteers time to sample the Zambian music and other traditional values.

Volunteers will be able to watch various sports disciplines some which the volunteers will also share with their Zambian counterparts. Zambia has various sports such as football,volley ball,rugby,Hockey,Chess,Handball,Boxing,swimming and athletics.These activities will be done after planning

In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.

sociology or management at High school level
Nationality Restrictions
No restrictions. Helping hands from all over the world are welcome.
Other Skills
The following are not required but it would be preferable if volunteers had these skills Computer skills, Community mobilization skills, leadership skills, teaching skills and drama skills,agriculture skills,project planning,project proposal writing,M&E
Time Commitment
Your helping hand will be required on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 08:00 - 16:00

Airport Pickup at Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International Airport

We will provide spacious and comfortable airport pickup for the volunteers to and fro. There will be a vehicle that will be stationed at the airport to wait for the volunteer and bring them to the district where they will be staying. The volunteers will be given all the support needed during the transit from the airport up to the point of stay. The volunteers will also be allowed to pass through some shopping malls in case they need to buy some things before starting off to Mufulira district.


Accommodation will be urban set up with proper security and friendly people in the community. We will accommodate the volunteers in the homes of host families who are partners and members of ALEJO Community Support Project. These homes are located in town with easy access to transport and shopping centers. The accommodation for volunteers will be inspected by our team so that the rooms are well prepared.

Food & Beverages

The food that will be provided are rice,meat,vegetables,water melons,bananas,sweet potatoes,chickens,fish,apples, ice cream and there will African foods which will be prepared for the volunteers to test also. In our program we will also allow the volunteers to suggest what type of they would want to for each particular day.Therefore,host families will prepare a menu where the volunteer will make selections at will.

The drinks will include soft drinks, fruit juices and mineral water.

Visa, flights, travel insurance or vaccinations are NOT included in the program fees.
Flight Tickets
The nearest airport is Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International Airport (NLA) in Ndola. We assist you to find cheap flights to Zambia.
Travel Insurance
Going abroad is an adventure and it is always best to be prepared. Sudden illness or injury, cancellation or theft - a travel insurance for Zambia provides security and is a plus to have.
If you are intending to volunteer in Zambia you should seek medical advice before starting your social journey. Check your required vaccinations for Zambia.
