The Young Changemakers Programme is a collaborative effort to tackle social issues in an intercultural setting. It provides a unique opportunity to address social problems in multiple contexts, develop leadership and creative problem-solving skills, as well as a unique intercultural experience in the program location in Indonesia. As its outcome, this program aims to come up with a solution that will contribute to the better change in the global society.

This intensive program will include discussions, organization visits, and volunteering activities that focuses on one of these themes:
  • Gender equality
  • Social innovation through digital transformation
  • Tolerance and inclusivity in the context of interfaith and SOGIE (Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity and Expression)

In this program, participants will also take part in an excursion to Baduy, where they will meet a tribe that still upholds their traditional ways by isolating themselves from the outside world. It is an opportunity for cultural exchange unlike any other.

Typical day

Welcome to your project! On arrival, you will be picked up by a local staff/volunteer and taken to your accommodation to rest. You must have had a long journey, and you're best prepared for the orientation the next day!

You will undergo an orientation on your intercultural experience ahead. The orientation includes introduction of organization, managing hopes and concerns, basic Bahasa Indonesia, rules and regulations, and emergency procedures. You will also be briefed about your volunteering project by its staff. At the end of the day, you will depart to your project location and meet your host family.

There will be an induction, and then the activities will commence. You will get involved in short internships with various community service projects and reflect your experience in relation to your home country during your stay. You will also engage in extensive discussions with fellow participants and partnering students on the issue at hand in coming up with a solution that is mindful to the influencing factors in various communities.

The program includes an excursion to Baduy, a tribal land in West Java populated by a people that strictly upholds traditional ways by rejecting any form of technology and isolating themselves from the outsideworld.

During your free time, you are free to explore the area and experience the local culture as you wish!

Before your departure home, you will have an end-of-stay orientation to reflect on your experiences and how it affects your perspective.
