Increasing Employability - Pre Departure Program Training:

Our programs are not only life-changing experiences but are also designed to help participants increase their employability. We have developed a curriculum to be completed prior to arrival in the country in order to ensure that more time is dedicated to program work once you commence your volunteer program.

Eight weeks prior to your start date, you will complete the following online courses in preparation for your in-country program:

  • PRE-DEPARTURE ORIENTATION (1 hour)
  • PROGRAM SPECIFIC TRAINING (1 - 5 hours)
  • COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COURSE (10 - 15 hours)
  • LEADERSHIP COURSE (10 - 15 hours)
  • CAREERS COURSE (10 - 15 hours)

In order to obtain a certificate for the Community Development, Leadership and Careers courses which are endorsed by the University of Richmond and UNC Charlotte, you will need to complete quizzes & assignments and will be given 4 weeks post program to submit your work.

If you are looking to travel in less than 8 weeks from now, you will still complete the course however this will be done in country and all content will need to be downloaded before arrival.

Health & Hygiene:

The work we contribute to across the globe remains important and new measures allow our participants to continue to join our programs and continue impacting positively on their world and the communities we work with. Changes to our existing protocols have been made by our health and hygiene team to strengthen our health and hygiene protocols and ensure that international standard safeguards are in place to protect our participants, staff and host communities. Please inquire for more information on the protocols.

Typical day

You will have a busy schedule and can expect a full day of teaching, planning and preparing for lessons and workshops; as well as a minimum of one hour training each week. Our interns live and work with staff and other participants in the community of Siem Reap, a bustling riverside town with a relaxed, friendly charm.

Expect busy days, including full days of teaching, planning and preparing for lessons and workshops, as well as a minimum of one hour training each week. You will work anywhere from pagodas, in which local Buddhist monks are taught, to the drop-in educational facility in town, to our own classrooms. Mondays to Fridays will be spent working with some of the most marginalized members of the Siam Reap community and supporting them to learn English. On the weekends, explore the surrounding area including the ever-popular Angkor Wat, travel to the islands or to Phnom Penh to see the Royal Palace.

  • Depending on which classes you teach, you may work with children from local villages, young adults hoping to better their employment through learning English or local businesses hoping to improve the skills of their staff members.
  • You may work with our younger children to teach them basic English, play games or run arts and crafts activities.
  • You may also support our music and dance center by working with students to explore their creative talents, organise sports events to encourage a healthy lifestyle, or put on workshops for your students and their families on hot topics such as Hygiene and Health.
  • The projects we engage in depend on the needs of the community at that time, so participants should be prepared to be flexible and adapt to changes in the field.

Free-time activities

We are centrally located in a guesthouse, overlooking the grand Mekong River, allowing you easy access to all that the town has to offer. Experience Cambodian life first hand, as you watch the goings on from your window. In the evening you can relax at the base and hang out with other like minded participants, interns and staff members - or explore the vibrant night markets, restaurants, shops and riverside stalls of Siem Reap.

If you can travel further afield visit the capital city of Phnom Penh to enjoy the electric atmosphere of the bustling riverside, visit the sprawling markets or immerse yourself in the history of the Khmer Rouge with its sights and museums. Travel south down to the many spectacular islands off the Southern tip of Cambodia where you can spend the weekend island hoping to enjoy the stunning beaches, trek through uninhabited jungle or practice your snorkeling and explore the underwater world. Travel north and you will find the 12th century temple ruins from the Khmer Empire, the famous Angkor Wat.
