Description

 Who we are?

Peace And Happiness Foundation is a non-profit organization set up to provide free international standard bi-lingual education for the poor and under-privileged children of Thailand in order to help them grow up happy and become quality world citizens.

What we do?

We run on a dream to provide education that teaches analytical thinking skills with the use of English language to unprivileged children of Thailand, beginning from the first grade of primary school. With the inspiration from the late King Bhumibol of Thailand, we aim to help the poor and underprivileged children in Thailand develop their analytical skill and English ability by bringing the teaching method of international schools into the Thai schools for the poor. In the meantime, we connect with around twelve schools in northern Thailand, reaching out approximately a hundred students aging 7-8.

We embrace the uniqueness of an English as a Second Language (ESL) classroom, and use it to our full advantage by discovering and implementing new ways of appealing to students of different learning styles, cultures, and walks of life, in order to engage them in our learning environment. We keep on developing modern technology to facilitate our teaching, children would be exposed to videos containing teaching materials prepared by us. Volunteers will at the same time be using the video for the teaching.

Where we work?

We partner with schools at the Northern part of Thailand specifically Chiang Rai and Nan province. Geographically this part have several mountain ranges. Also close to the borders of Myanmar and Laos. The typical weather in Thailand is hot and rainy, however, the northern part of Thailand experience colder weather than the rest of the part of the country because of its high elevation.

Our History

More than 20 years ago when Ms. Natasha Stewart, the current President of Peace And Happiness Foundation, was studying at Assumption University for her master’s degree, she saw a news program showing how hard His Majesty the King of Thailand, the late King Bhumibol, was working although he was almost 70 years old. Being so sad that His Majesty, though being King, had to endure such hardship physically and mentally for his people, she felt compelled to do something to lessen the King’s burdens. Ever since, she has always had this dream of utilizing her talents and abilities to make a difference for her country. Her intention was to help the poor children of Thailand access a better education of the international standard because our children are the developing force to determine the future of the country.

The foundation was partly initiated from the fact that many foreigners living and working in the country had pointed out that the Thai children are taught to memorize and most of them do not use thinking skills. That is so unnerving for the Thai people to hear but it is also very true. What can we do to make sure our children from every corner of the country are taught thinking and analytical skills from early on?

Natasha has found the answer to help the poor and underprivileged children in Thailand develop their analytical skill and English ability by bringing the teaching method of international schools into the Thai schools for the poor. Most of the subjects are taught in English by highly experienced native English speaking teachers via online learning platform and VDO, and the subjects that are mandatory to be in Thai are taught by the school’s Thai teachers.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for individuals that has a heart to help unprivileged children and make a difference in their life. A person that can facilitate class for Grade 1 & 2, with ages 7 to 9 years old, use our teaching materials like teaching videos, lessons plans, activities and etc. We are not only looking for individuals that has a background for teaching but anyone that wants to help us achieving our mission.

Why Peace and Happiness Foundation?

The foundation is making a difference to the lives of unprivileged children in Thailand. Our volunteers will also experience and learn the Thai culture, as this is part of the journey leaving in a rural area. Thai culture is one of the diverse culture in South East Asia. Also exploring the country’s natural resources or travelling to beaches and mountains.
