À propos du programme

Can you imagine an earth all blue and grey? No sight of greenery? Like the fictional movies, we don’t want this beautiful world of ours to perish without an effort. Join hands in helping us support plantation drives and giving community support to the neighborhoods of East India.

Welcome to our humble forest communities of the eastern Indian region where you would get a hands-on experience of the preservation methods and wildlife conservation programs near the world-famous Sundarbans.

Location:

This is located in the north-eastern district of Barasat out of the alluvial bustling city of Kolkata in a small serene suburban town called Hridaypur. To the east, you can always visit the Ganges for a quiet walk and to the west, there are spans of towns leading upto the Indo-Bangladesh border. To the south, you have the famous Sundarbans and the north leads to the upper Himalayas. The state of Bengal is surrounded by land on three and a water body on one side, known as the Bay of Bengal.

Weather:

Since it’s closer to the sea, Bengal has always enjoyed a moderate weather. During the summer, it’s warm and humid followed by the great monsoon season where you can also witness cyclones, although not frequently due to erratic wind directions. Then comes the winter season and unlike many who don’t know, Bengal has a tendency to have temperatures below 10 degrees as well in the months of January and February.

What makes the project awesome?

We offer meaningful, culturally enriching experiences, opportunities for personal growth, and a sense of purpose. In our organization travelers can volunteer, work in the projects, stay for long terms, become a member or an affiliate of the organization, create a connected community and so on.

Meaningful Impact: Travelers often seek opportunities to make a positive impact on the communities they visit. This place offers volunteer programs that contribute to meaningful causes, be it social, environmental, or humanitarian, and thus make a compelling reason for travelers to visit.

Cultural Immersion: Volunteering can provide travelers with a better immersion experience. They can interact with local communities, learn about their customs, traditions, and way of life, and gain a more authentic understanding of the destination.

Personal Growth: Volunteering offers travelers a chance for personal growth and development. They can acquire new skills, broaden their horizons, and build self-confidence while making a difference in the world.

Cost-Effective Travel: Some travelers may be on a budget and choose to volunteer as a way to offset the cost of their trip. In exchange for full-board meals, a secure and homely accommodation, volunteering can be the fishnet for budget-conscious travelers.

Networking Opportunities: Volunteering can lead to valuable connections with like-minded individuals, both among fellow travelers and local residents. This can be particularly appealing to travelers interested in networking or building relationships.

Importance of conservation:

  1. One of the main elements of these natural surroundings is trees, which are considered the best friend of living species. Since the evolution of the country has taken place, humans have started to utilize the resources insufficiently and in large quantities for all their comfort and luxury. The increase of the population in our country has led to a decrease of the number of trees in the forest area. Therefore, there’s an urgent need for the plantation of trees in the country for reserving the resources for the future generation.
  2. There is a major need for immediate reforestation. The balance between lesser oxygen levels and ozone depleted layers needs immediate attention and focus on restoration.
  3. Why not save the wildlife? After all, humans evolved from primates. And we have no right to deprive them of their own environment, their freedom and space. A plantation drive would increase forest cover and help displaced animals get back from the peripheral human habitats back into the core.
  4. Trees do more than just make a photogenic landscape. They are the home to the indigenous wildlife, be it a squirrel, a monkey or an exotic bird. Hence, there is a heartfelt need for them to live and nurture the environment around.
  5. People need to be aware of the extensive positive impact on their lives and the balance of nature in earth. We get almost everything from nature. And it is our duty to protect and preserve whatever is left in our care and control. It cant be a one-man job; teamwork bears consistency and with consistency comes fruit.

Volunteers are required for the following tasks:

  1. Work hand-in-hand for plantation drives in allocated areas.
  2. Provide resources to spread reforestation awareness and its importance.

c.      8:30 to 9 am – normal basic breakfast.

d.     9 to 12 pm – other works to be done guided by the staff.

e.     12 to 1:30 pm – lunch break.

f.       1:30 to 4:30 pm – work continues till the end.

The main task is to relax, enjoy and learn. There’s no strict rule about attending a workshop or a session.

Activités de loisirs

In the east, we have the national highway NH34 through which one can reach till Bangladesh Petrapol border. One beautiful off-beat lake is 20 mins from the project site called Makarsha Pukur (spider-pond; however, don’t go too much into the local name as it does not have any relevant connection to spiders). You can also avail an EV three-wheeler, fondly known as Toto, to reach this beautiful pond.

To the north, you will find Helabattala one of the busiest and important road junctions. From there, you can go to a place of historical importance called Nilganj where the colonial rulers used to torture local farmers to cultivate Indigo. Amongst nearby notable areas and towns, Barrackpore is also known for the Indian Army cantonment (regiment base). Beyond that, if you have time, you can visit the Gorumara Forest reserve to get a glimpse of the rhinoceros and the wild tuskers. Beyond that, you can go to Darjeeling to get a breath-taking view of the world’s largest mountain range (the Himalayas).

To the south, one can always venture out to a seaside vacation for which there are plenty of options such as Mandarmani, Digha or Tajpur. Or one can also go to view the Sundarbans, home to the Royal Bengal Tiger, the national animal of India and the world’s most intelligent terrestrial predator.

During the weekend, volunteers will have the spare time to relax or take the opportunity to go hiking, Rock climbing, wall climbing, trekking, cycling, community art practice, plantation, boating and other water sports such as rafting (subject to availability).

Volunteers are provided with three meals per day (breakfast, lunch and dinner), which are served at the accommodation or the project site. They are free to have their own snacks as they want.

Breakfast generally consists of chai (tea) or coffee, toast, fruits, etcetera.

Usually, typical Indian home-made food is served and it is a very healthy staple meal. Sometimes restaurant food can be arranged on request. Healthy, sattvic food is also there. It is recommended to blend with the culture, try to eat as much as organic food, fruits, nuts, etc.

If the volunteer is a meat lover, that is also an available option.

If you have any special dietary requirements, please make a note on your application so arrangements can be made. However, it is important that volunteers should not expect to eat as you normally do at home.
