Become a volunteer teacher at an elemantary school in Panama. Help children from socially disadvantaged families improve their education.
This volunteer program is especially suitable for:
Panama has a growing economy, even if economic growth and prosperity does not reach all parts of the population. Panama City, the country's capital, is the economic center and with its high-rise buildings and modern financial district it is similar to cities like Miami or Singapore. However, large parts of the country are very rural, and people suffer from poverty. Many children from the poorer population do not attend school regularly or finish school prematurely. For many families, securing three meals a day is already a major challenge, not to mention the procurement of schoolbooks, teaching materials and the daily transportation the school.
This volunteer project supports school children in the community of Chame on the Gulf of Panama. The volunteer program has made it its mission to help these children with different educational offers, providing them with educational tools in accordance with their age. Personal and educational growth is promoted through teaching, didactic and leisure games. This should give the children the chance to develop and use their potential.
During the morning hours volunteers work as assistant teacher at the primary school. You will assist the teachers with subjects such as English, Spanish, mathematics, geography, and the like. In the afternoons volunteers conduct exciting activities, like sports, painting, handicraft, educational workshops, and similar activities that entertain the children and that promote their development.
The volunteers usually work in two shifts, in the morning from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and in the afternoon from 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m (from Monday to Friday).
Note: The tasks may vary. They depend on factors such as the number of volunteers, time of year, current needs of the project and self-motivation. Not every volunteer may be fully involved in all these tasks.
The metropolis of Panama City is only about an hour away. Panama City has a breathtaking coastline, modern skyscrapers, but also a very interesting old town that invites you to linger. The Panama Canal, the flagship of the country, is definitely worth seeing.
In the immediate vicinity of the volunteer project you can visit dream beaches, unwind in the sun, visit typical Panamanian indigenes villages and National Park, or take one of the diverse outdoor sports offers on land or in the water (kayak, rapel, diving, swimming.
There are also opportunities to learn more about the great flora and fauna and go on excursions to ecotourism.
