Take Care of Exotic Animals

Situated in the Amazon region, this project was founded in 1996. At the beginning, there were only two spider monkeys, one capuchin monkey, and one squirrel monkey. Today, the center is home to around 500 animals of 30 different species. You can also find some animals of endangered species at the center. The animal rescue center is open to tourists, but only at a distance, where the tourists can see rehabilitated animals in their natural habitat. The monkeys crowd together and they can be heard and seen jumping on the top of the trees. The main idea of the center is to protect and re-introduce the animals into the wild.

There is a team of veterinarians, scientists, and volunteers from all over the world who take care of the animals. Every species has a specified diet, medical supply if necessary, and own set of social behaviors. Some of the animals live semi-wild, which means that they can leave their cages to freely explore their natural surroundings.

During this project, you will experience unique and intense adventures every day! You will help maintain the local nature and be an active part of the conservation and protection of nature and wildlife in South America!

As a volunteer, there are different tasks that you will do. Your main task is to feed the animals and to assure their safety and wellbeing. You will also make sure that the environment in the park is as natural as possible. During the day, a lot of the animals are dismissed from their enclosures and are accompanied into the wild or in so called runners where they have more space.

Another important area, which contributes to the successful existence of the animal welfare center, is the area of construction. It is important to maintain the facilities and equipment in a perfect condition. The enclosures and cages of the animals need to be regularly checked, improved and renewed.

Please keep in mind that some areas of work require minimum period of participation. This is especially important for the welfare of the animals. For example, a minimum of 21 days is required if you want to work with Marley or the spider monkeys.

The working hours as a volunteer depend on the working area, the current workload and the number of volunteers supporting the wildlife park. Generally, volunteers work from 7 am to 6 pm with a long siesta break (time schedule subject to changes).

The work areas for volunteers are well structured and organized to assure that all animals are taken care of, fed and healthy. The wildlife sanctuary can consider personal wishes from volunteers regarding the work area, nevertheless, we cannot guarantee that your expectations will be always met. But there is one thing we can guarantee you certainly: Your stay abroad in Bolivia, in the middle of the jungle, will be a unique experience!

Note: The tasks may vary. They depend on factors such as number of volunteers, weather, season, current needs of the project, as well as self-motivation. Not every volunteer may be fully involved in all tasks.

Villa Tunari is a magic place where visitors live a unique encounter with nature, enjoying its rivers and vegetation at the edge of the Bolivian Amazon jungle. There are nature parks all around that invite for wildlife watching and hiking. Even adrelanine seekers can find activities like giant swings of up to 18 meters high, slides between 50 to 200 meters long, cabins in the treetops, cable lifts, hanging bridges, rafting, white sand beach on the Chipiriri river and a natural habitat with monkeys, squirrels, meleros, jochis, birds and reptiles.

On the other hand, there are orchids parks that allows visitors to see more than 1,500 species of orchids in the tropics. Another option is the "Jurasicc Avatar Tourist Park", characterized by gigantic figures of dinosaurs and animals, as well as recreational areas.

Community tourism in Bolivian indigenous and rural villages is also a great option to learn more about the cutlural heritage of this region of Bolivia.
