As part of our local animal shelter, you'll be responsible for a variety of activities such as feeding, maintenance and engaging with animals!

If you like
reptiles, amphibians, mammals, birds and are also interested in preserving the
environment, you will be perfect for this program. You will be helping out at and supporting a local animal shelter. Not only does this shelter take in homeless animals, but also wild animals which are in a bad condition of any kind. Our aim is to release them back into the wild as soon as they are healthy and well again.
This type of volunteering is perfect for adult volunteers who want help for a longer time. The volunteer can come every day he or she wants within the whole month. It is also always necessary to assist in the shelter and respect the conditions of volunteering. Furthermore, our programs are family-friendly as we love to welcome families with little children.
In addition to the care-taking of the animals, volunteers help us welcome visitors at the entrance, explain our goals and answer any questions that the visitors may have about the shelter or its resident animals. Knowledge about wildlife management will grow, as the volunteer spend more days in the shelter. They will learn about positive interaction with animals to good diet and reproduction.
Our main goal at the end of the day will always be taking care of wild animals and releasing them back to nature where they belong.

Some of the activities you will participate in are:
- Interacting with visitors
- Maintenance of animal enclosures
- Answering basic questions about animals
- Training of wild resident animals that are in the shelter
- Cleaning the trials
- Cleaning the cases
- preparation of diets
- feeding the animals.
- And many other things!
PS: Bring long pants and close shoes.

Voorwaarden
Om deel te nemen aan het programma dien je ten minste 15 jaar te zijn op de startdatum van het programma.
Je dient over volgende taalkennis te beschikken Engels (basis niveau)
op High School niveau
Geen beperkingen. Helpende handen van over de hele wereld zijn welkom.

The program fee includes pick up airport, 3 daily meals, lodging, laundry and wifi with local families.
Volunteers are picked up from the San Jose International Airport “JUAN SANTAMARÍA “ by the local coordinator or representative.
Those volunteers who are arriving overland or are already in Costa Rica will be picked up at a meeting point decided beforehand.
Transport back to the airport is not include because some volunteers decide to travel by themselve around the country.
Accommodation with local families, individual or shared rooms with TV cable, free wifi and laundry.
We have private house fully furnished if you are participating with your family.
Three meals a day: breakfast, lunch and dinner, fruits - typical food from Costa Rica. We also have special food for vegetarian's or vegan's volunteers.
Makkelijke toegang op de project site
Visum, vluchten, reisverzekering en vaccinaties zijn NIET inbegrepen in de programmakosten.
De dichtste luchthaven is Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO) in San Jose. We assisteren u met het vinden van goedkope vluchten naar Costa Rica.
Naar het buitenland reizen is een avontuur en het is best om goed voorbereid te zijn. Plots ziek worden of gewond raken, annulaties of diefstal - een reisverzekering voor Costa Rica biedt zekerheid en is een meerwaarde.
Als je de intentie hebt om als vrijwilliger aan de slag te gaan in Costa Rica dien je eerst medisch advies in te winnen alvorens je eropuit trekt. Kijk de benodigde vaccinaties na voor Costa Rica.
