Ghana

Ghana is often called the friendliest country in West Africa, it has a vibrant rich history to explore and experience as well as being one of the most accessible and stable countries on the continent. Accra is the capital city of Ghana with English being the primary language, whilst it is quickly modernizing and becoming more established there is still a lot of poverty across the country. We are trying to lift as many people out of poverty as we can to offer a better life to those who we are working with.

Safety

Ghana is extremely safe, however during your time with Akwaaba volunteers we will ensure you are extremely well looked after, the volunteer house is secured in a compound with a security guard working in the evenings, we also have staff present 24 hours a day, our volunteer coordinator will be ensuring you are safe and accompanying you to your program as well as on any excursions or travel opportunities. From the moment you arrive in Ghana we will be waiting at the airport with you and are here to assist you with anything you need.

Our volunteering experience in Ghana offers a unique view on this country and a fantastic opportunity to immerse yourself in the Ghanaian culture, make a lasting impact, develop relationships with communities, build friendships and to use your skills to inspire others as we as having the opportunity to travel around this vibrant country.

Social Impact

We offer a wide variety of programs. Through these programs we are making a great impact on the community, we are ensuring that every child has access to an education and medical care as well as creating new opportunities for people through various activities and vocational skills. This way we can make a sustainable impact in Ghana.

So far our volunteers have had a great impact on our programs, all of our programs encompass disadvantaged children. Our schools received fantastic donations of new school bags, uniforms for students, stationary and exercise books and we are currently in the process of building a new school specifically for underprivileged children who cannot afford to attend government school. Some volunteers have also been spending their free time attending community centers and churches offering free advice and basic medical care to those who need it.

Our aim is to be able to expand our work to work with even more children and communities offering them the same opporrtunites and this can be achieved through the help of our volunteers!
