Review Description

The Chol-Chol Foundation is a non-profit, non-governmental, fair trade organization, with no religious or political affiliations, dedicated to serving the Mapuche, rural population of the Araucanía Region in Chile, thus improving their lives and the future of their families. We accomplish this through training and workshops, human development projects, and commercialization of their artisan products. We work in order to the 10 principles of fair trade.

In 1953, James Ward Mundell, an American missioner who stablished in Chol-Chol town, found communities with social differences and with limited access to education, health services and food. Having this situation and with the objective that guide him to “finish world hunger in the world” in different countries he took the decision to found an organization to help people excluded from social development.

We work in Temuco, te capital of the 9th region of Chile called "La Araucanía", which is in south Chile. Currently, our organization has a team made up by professionals, practicants, and volunteers who had committed to encourage the achievement of the organization’s goals.

Vision: we aspire to contribute de fair and equitable development of our society, promoting the respect of cultures, women and men dignity, the value of their capacities and human development support.

Mision: we seek to promote the sustainable economic development of 180 Mapuche artisans in our region through fair trades in their crafts.

We are looking for people like you, we think that volunteers have a vital part in realizing this approach, as we view volunteering as one of the most important, mutually beneficial ways to support and collaborate on social, economic, and cultural development .
