Animal Care & Release

by GoEco

Join us to assist with rehabilitating injured and abandoned animals. Work alongside a team of vets and release animals back to their natural habitat or a loving home.

Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan and one of the most visited cities on earth. This captivating metropolis attracts all types of travelers because of its rich culture, magnificent artifacts, and pink-colored architecture (for which it got its nickname as the “Pink City”).

Jaipur is also one of the fastest growing urban centers in the country with a burgeoning population of over 3.3 million people. However, this positive urban expansion has not come without consequences. Environmental concerns are frequently ignored during the planning and construction of new buildings, and little is done for the animals that are displaced as a result.

About the Project

This project collaborates with an animal welfare organization that acts as both a shelter and a hospital for abandoned and injured animals. The center also has three rescue ambulances and two mobile clinic vehicles, which provide emergency rescue and preventive care services.

There are 15 to 20 staff members who work to make this shelter a safe haven for the animals, while also offering critical veterinary services to treat animals on-site and around the city. Their ultimate goals are to release wild animals back into their natural habitats and to find homes for as many ownerless animals as soon as possible.

Volunteer Work and Contribution

After a 2-day orientation in Delhi, you will be taken to Jaipur to begin your project. There are about 50-60 animals at the center at any given time and, like many shelters, the staff is severly overburdened. For this reason, volunteers are needed to help this organization run effectively. As a volunteer, your tasks may include:

  •   Dressing and/or cleaning animals’ wounds
  •   Feeding the animals
  •   Assisting in routine hospital check-ups
  •   Cleaning animal cages
  •   Cleaning up debris and garbage on the project site

Important Notes

A tourist visa must be applied for and obtained before traveling to India. A visa cannot be obtained for a stay exceeding 180 days. It is the sole responsibility of the participant to have the appropriate visa before travel. Please consult your local Indian consulate.

You should to apply to this project at 1 - 2 months before your chosen start date in order to ensure that you have enough time to obtain the proper visa.  The visa process is lengthy and can take up to 2 months.
