Animal Welfare worker

Collecting food for animals, preparing of food and feeding the animals, cleaning animal cages

By volunteering on this project you will be helping Ecuador by working to protect more than 15 thousand unique animal and plant species, including monkeys, reptiles, exotic birds, and wild cats, which characterize Ecuador as one of the world’s most biologically diverse countries.

The project is located in the amazon region five hours away from Quito. The main goal of the project is to rescue and rehabilitate wild animals that have lived in inappropriate environments like in small cages for tourist attractions, as well as animals that have been victims of animal trafficking. The project works with authorities to get as many animals to the centre and confiscated from their owners as possible. The center opened in 2006 with several hectares of forest as land, animals are brought regularly by the police and other people who want to protect the wildlife.

Working -

The Amazon rainforest is known world wide and this experience gives you the opportunity to work there and make a difference to the eco system in Ecuador. Volunteers usually work with the locals this gives them a great opportunity to learn about their culture and traditions.

On a typical working day you will prepare food for the animals, clean and construct cages, clear hiking trails and other maintenance of the center, guide tourists around the center.

The center is open to visitors with the entrance fee and donations being a source of income which make the center self sufficient, by doing this project you will get to hold and play with some animals nursing them back to health this is a very rewarding job with great experiences.
