Peru Peru Volunteering

Archaeological Museum Supporter

We need volunteers to help out at the local museum in Huari.
The museum is located next to an archaeological place: Wari Willca ruins.

The museum is located next to an archaeological place -> Wari Willka ruins. It shows the original place of the old Huanca-culture and their way of life around the 18th century.

Your tasks is going to be to show the museum´s treasures to the visitors that are mostly Spanish speaking people. Therefore Spanish knowledge is necessary. You will tell them about the culture of the Huancas and show them all the exhibition objects. The museum shows pieces that are part of the Peruvian cultural heritage. Therefore all objects are very interesting and our volunteers can learn a lot about the ancient culture of this part of the country.

Also you will be asked to help the museum director with administration work and promoting issues of the museum. He is a very polite, friendly and open-minded person who always warmly accepts help from Volunteers from foreign countries. A goal is to help him and probably show him how his administration and promotion can be improved. Showing your skills in exchange of gaining experience and getting know about archaeological issues is going to be a important part of a intercultural exchange with that person.

If you are interested in it and your Spanish skills are very good, you can also help to discover more of that archaeological ruins and doing some archaeological research with the local staff to get to know more about the Huanca`s way of living.

Suitable for

Typical day

In the morning you will have to get to work by car (Taxi) or public transport. Of course you´ll get our help and advice with that traveling and don't be afraid, it is not rocket science. Your working place is only 15 minutes away from Huancayo.

There you will work either at the office and helping with administration works or working as a museum guide (showing the museum´s treasures to the visitors). Depending on your interest and Spanish skills, you can also help with archaeological research with the local staff on special dates.

After finishing work you come back home where food is going to be served and you can relax.
In what tasks you are going to work, depends on your interests and the needed help of the museum owner.

You can choose yourself if you'd like to work half or full day.
Your timetable is quite flexible and we can check it with the museum owner so both sides are going to be happy and satisfied. Please not that for archaeological research you´re probably going to need more time than half a day.
