Architecture with a social impact!

We are looking for students or graduates in architecture or building sciences to design and build one of our beautiful and sustainable projects.

As a student, recent graduate or professional of building arts and sciences, you have the chance to come to Tanzania for 5-8 weeks and work on a unique building project that you complete within a time frame.

Working in pairs, volunteers choose a project and work for a 6 -10 week period where they will research, design, manage, budget and construct the project.

Pre arrival:
  • Preparation for the project:
  • Look into architecture and development in the South
  • Read the documentation received from C-re-aid
  • Investigate the current housing issues in Tanzania
  • Fund raising:
  • The volunteer is responsible to raise the funds for the project costs. We encourage volunteers to participate in fundraising activities to cover the full cost of the chosen project.
  • The volunteer is allowed to raise the funds for the flight and program costs. All extra funds collected under the name of C-re-a.i.d. go entirely to the organization. We ensure that all funds raised in this process are invested directly into C-re-a.i.d.
Upon arrival:
  • Discovery process: Meet with the community in which you will be working – this is your chance to get integrated; learn about their culture, their environment, and their dreams.
  • Survey of the renovation/build: In-depth REsearch into the needs and desired outcome of the project.
  • Design: Let your creativity be unleashed! Using the research you’ve gathered be innovative, think ‘outside the box’. Consider the impact your design will have. Think of realistic and achievable methods.
  • Project Management: Managing the Project Budget/ Sourcing local workmen and building materials/ Arranging work schedules and staff payments/ Construction
  • Work on-site – this is the perfect opportunity to share ideas and learn new skills and get your hands dirty. You will work closely with local experts and learn the methods of architecture, design and engineering in Tanzania
  • Students will complete an evaluation file, including; Impact of the project on the family and the community. Reactions and feedback from the target audience. The construction process, Innovation of design


Back in home country:
  • Write a report or task requested by the university (as a student)
  • Give presentations of your work to fellow students/colleagues.
  • participate in events or exhibitions organized by C-re-aid.


The program can be part of the universities course accreditation or placement requirements, research development and assists in expanding international relationships.

Program Requirements

Minimum Age
In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s).

You need to speak English (basic level)

Free-time activities

As Moshi is a wonderful and very clean town literally on the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro, it is possible to hike on the highest mountain of Africa! Tanzania is also famous for its safaris, where you can see a lot of wildlife including the big 5. Also other nature is beautiful, with waterfalls, lakes and other mountains to hike in, very close by! In town itself there is plenty of activities. In the weekends people can go out to bars, clubs and concerts. The karaoke on Saturdays is also really fun! Also for those claiming that karaoke isn't fun, wait till you see this. There is also a great opportunity to do sports. You can play volleybal, soccer, basketball, go to the gym, do yoga... possibilities are endless. You are never ever bored in and around Moshi!

What's included?
- Project costs*: 1200 - 2200EUR (see website for the specific project costs)
- C-re-aid program costs (administration, accommodation, airport transfer, equipment...): 650EUR

- Arrange yourself: Flight ticket, vaccinations, medication: 650 - 1200EUR

What's NOT included?
Visa, flights, travel insurance or vaccinations are NOT included in the program fees.

You can volunteer at the project site in Moshi/Tanzania between 6 weeks and 10 weeks. Please note that the above shown program fees are estimated and subject to exchange rate fluctuations. C-re-a.i.d. will tell you your final price during your application process.
Average Fees
Deposit (15%)
The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.
Final Payment (85%)
Your final payment will be agreed with C-re-a.i.d. during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.
