Assist with Women Empowerment

Rishikesh, India show on map

The program focuses on Integrated development of the community through women and child development. Volunteer in a local handicraft and handloom unit promoting livelihood

Bhartiya Gramotthan Sanstha is a registered organization working since 28 years in the field of social and rural development. Employment generation is the main objective of the organization. For achieving its target the organization emphasizes on local raw material based employment.

Apart from this, the other working areas of the organization is handicraft, handloom (wool, cotton, jute), jute carpet, giving commercial training to the women self help group (SHG) for income generation, helping SHG in marketing of their products, imparting technical knowledge, forestation, non formal education, environment related programme, cultivating medicinal plants, implementing various health programme based on Indian medical system with the participation of the mob is the major objective of the organization.

The importance of the project lies in improving the current management system at the Organization retail outlet. We run a handloom and handicraft retail outlet in the premises itself. The local women don't have access to an integrated management system and lack professional skills.. They also lack basic English speaking skills for a powerful presentation. It is important for them to possess such useful skills.

Volunteers who will work with them could develop their own ideas for a meaningful and efficient running of the outlet. It could range from sales to marketing segment. We would love to welcome volunteers who have managerial experience at some level but we are as much open for volunteers who are passionate at heart and would like to help us achieve our vision. Also we would highly appreciate volunteers who have good social media skills, can make a website, write blog and help us build an e-commerce website to market local artisan products online.

This opportunity is also useful for a volunteer who want to have a first hand look at small cottage industry and its way of functioning which supports livelyhood of many, and women in particular our case. Volunteers develop their leadership skills and insipre and get inspired by other members who came against the odd and are successfuly an integral part of this unit. The volunteers would be part of a larger family and they can always share their thoughts where they think they can impact the system in more efficient way.

Bhartiya Gramotthan Sanstha is located in Rishikesh- the yoga city. Rishikesh is well known for its yoga studios and adventure related activities. You will be staying in a homestay which is around 10 km away from the premises. The place where you stay is a subburb area and has village outlook with all daily needs groceries. The village is very near to the capital of Uttrakhand state- Dehradun and is well connected with air and land. You get a chance to see the local life. live the local life and be an integral part of it. The rooms are very comfortable, spacious with regular shower and western toilets. Two fullfilling meals, breakfast and dinner is provided. The meals are local Garhwali cuisine consists of local grown vegetables, lentils, pulses, millets, cereals and others.

The volunteers will work with Mrs. Vimla who leads the retail outlet and its functions. She speaks basic English and would help you visit the premises and situate you at the place. There are other staff members who would help the volunteer if required.  The help required is general and could range from sales to marketing segment. It could also involve in  helping in inventory at the outlet. Maintaing social media for organization would be helpful as we have regular programs, exhibitions going on throughout the year and we would love someone update it in English on our social media accounts. If you are good at making websites on any platform so we would like to take your help in maintaining/updating  our regular one.

Please note:  Volunteers would be needed to be flexible while choosing to volunteer at our place. Once you are with us take some time to situate and understand the working culture and place. After that you can also suggest us which place or segment your efforts will be valuable. Having a flexible attitude will help you grow your multitasking skills.
