Be a Preschool & Child Centre Assistant

We're looking for volunteers to give us a hand in our preschool and child support centre. The centre supports the less privileged children in our Township.

We will provide you with personal development and an in-depth experience of another country. You are advised to come prepared, show initiative, and be self-motivated. You will be helping in the following two areas:

Teaching Assistant:

  • Assisting teachers during their activities with the children.
  • Helping the children with class activities.
  • Teaching Basic English vocabulary.
  • Taking care of the children during playtime
  • Helping serve food and drinks during break times.
  • Helping out in the kitchen.
  • Helping with other activities such as maintaining the garden, painting, and preparing teaching material

Child Support Care Assisting:

You will support the staff by engaging the children in educational and recreational activities. Volunteers are encouraged to gear their activities towards education and using English as well as helping the children with homework and any other fun and useful activities.

  • Teaching English and helping with school homework.
  • Engaging with the children and being a role model.
  • Leading recreational activities.
  • Assisting with the upkeep of the home and any other help required.

Typical day

Hours & Roster

30 hours a week. Hours vary from 5-6 hours per day Monday-Friday. You will be free over the weekends.

Minimum stay length is 1- 12 weeks

Project placement is at preschools and Child Support Centre in Sakubva Township  15km from Mutare the main City.You will travel public transport to the project place.

Details on Arrival

THE PROGRAM
Programs start every 1st and 3rd Monday of each month, with arrival Sunday prior to the program start at HIA (Harare International Airport).This programs are available all year round.
Upon arrival you will be picked up at the airport and driven to the volunteer house or coordinator’s place.During 1-3 days, depending on the length of your voluntary work, you will get a general briefing. These first days will offer you glimpses into the Shona  language, as well as Zimbabwe's various cultures, religions, and local ways of life.
This introduction will be held in Mutare, Harare  depending on your work area.

Program Requirements

In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.

Airport Pickup at Harare International Airport

Upon arrival, all volunteers will be picked up at the airport by the volunteer coordinator in Zimbabwe. He will give you a brief orientation and update on the current events and status of our projects. He will then bring you to your volunteer location. You can be placed in groups and we will not split you up if you come with a partner or friends.

Accommodation

Sleeping: Volunteers usually stay with the host family. Andrew is part of the host family and is experienced with international volunteers. You will get a single room or share a room with another volunteer.

Linen & Laundry: Please bring linen and towels. Laundry facilities available.

Eating: All meals will be covered. Most of our meals are vegetarian, including banana, potatoes, rice, and beans. On occasion, we may provide traditional dishes.

Guest Family Bedroom (Single)
Food & Beverages

Breakfast,lunch and dinner are provided by the host family who who is also on hand to provide care and support to all our volunteers. They can enjoy Zimbabwean dishes which are African and could experience different flavors and meals during their Zimbabwean stay.

Visa, flights, travel insurance or vaccinations are NOT included in the program fees.
Flight Tickets
The nearest airport is Harare International Airport (HRE) in Harare. We assist you to find cheap flights to Zimbabwe.
Travel Insurance
Going abroad is an adventure and it is always best to be prepared. Sudden illness or injury, cancellation or theft - a travel insurance for Zimbabwe provides security and is a plus to have.
Vaccines
If you are intending to volunteer in Zimbabwe you should seek medical advice before starting your social journey. Check your required vaccinations for Zimbabwe.

You can volunteer at the project site in Mutare/Zimbabwe between 4 weeks and 12 weeks. Please note that the above shown program fees are estimated and subject to exchange rate fluctuations. Musha Care Foundation will let you know about the final price during your application process.
Crowdfunding Service
Generally, volunteering abroad involves certain costs. In case you need financial support, we will assist you to fundraise your volunteer program in Zimbabwe.
Deposit (15%)
The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.
Final Payment (85%)
Your final payment will be agreed with {project.name} during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.
