The Project

Santiago is known as one of the most modern cities in South America. Even though parts of the population in Chile are extremely wealthy, a significant portion still live in poverty or are homeless. This organization aims to improve the lives of impoverished or homeless people through big and small contributions each day. 

As a volunteer, you will be support a Chilean organization, which is dedicated to helping people who live on the streets of Chile. The charity was founded in 1977, and it runs a total of five projects that all try to combat poverty in the area. Through this project that helps the homeless, nearly 100 people are cared for, many of which have lived for many years without a roof over their head. 

Your Tasks

To be volunteer for this project, no special skills required, but you should be a dedicated individual that is able to take on responsibilities and work independently. You will interact with people who live very difficult lives in circumstances that you cannot imagine. 

On a daily basis, your tasks may include: Creating and updating the list that tracks the homeless, assisting workers with daily walks, and making contact with homeless people.

Free-time activities

The city of Santiago has a wide range of activities for volunteers to enjoy, such as a variety of different shopping malls with international and national chains. There are also many mountain ranges where you can go hiking. Nature lover can do many different outdoor sports like horse back riding, biking, rafting, climbing and so on. You can even go on a day trip to the Pacific coast. Santiago itself has many cultural activities to offer like museums, concerts, live-music, art galeries, etc.

Program Requirements

In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.
Language Skills
You need to speak Spanish (intermediate level)

Time Commitment
Your helping hand will be required on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 09:00 - 17:00

Accommodation

The set-up fee for your accommodation in Santiago de Chile is part of the program fee. However, the weekly/monthly rent has to be paid directly on site (approx. 80 USD / week).

Visa, flights, travel insurance or vaccinations are NOT included in the program fees. Food, snacks or beverages are at extra costs.
Flight Tickets
The nearest airport is Arturo Merino Benitez Airport (SCL) in Santiago. We assist you to find cheap flights to Chile.
Travel Insurance
Going abroad is an adventure and it is always best to be prepared. Sudden illness or injury, cancellation or theft - a travel insurance for Chile provides security and is a plus to have.
Vaccines
If you are intending to volunteer in Chile you should seek medical advice before starting your social journey. Check your required vaccinations for Chile.

You can volunteer at the project site in Santiago de Chile/Chile between 4 weeks and 25 weeks. Please note that the above shown program fees are estimated and subject to exchange rate fluctuations. South America Inside will let you know about the final price during your application process.
Crowdfunding Service
Generally, volunteering abroad involves certain costs. In case you need financial support, we will assist you to fundraise your volunteer program in Chile.
Deposit (15%)
The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.
Final Payment (85%)
Your final payment will be agreed with South America Inside during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.
