Caretaker for Children

Take care and supervise children, plan activities with them, do crafts, painting etc. and support the nurses in their daily tasks.

The children project

Help in one of our social projects in Santiago or Valparaiso to give new perspectives to children and their families. We have projects with children or teenagers, in institutiones for children with behavioural issues or disabilities. There is also a project with orphans and street kids.

Social institutions in Chile like Children's homes, day care centers, or similar establishments often complain about a lack of staff and financial resources. They dependent on the help of volunteers to help th already disadvantaged children. The national and international volunteers work with the so-called "tías" to give their best for the children and to fight against all the disadvanteges with which they have to live.

It is really hard to see so many children growing up without parents, because they are deceased, disappeared or in prison, or kids from families where they have been thrown out because the parents are not capable of in their parental duty of care. Without the social projects and institutions these children would not have any glimmer of hope for a better future.

Your work at the childrens project

You don´t need any special knowledge to work with children. But you should be dedicated and able to take on responsibilities independently. You will be a role model for the children, so be aware of this great responsibility. There are many different tasks to do for the volunteers, depending on the needs of the children and the institution, but normally the following tasks are what is expected from you at the project

  • Supporting the staff in their daily tasks
  • Supervise and take care of children and youth
  • Plan and motivate the children and youth for games, creative craft work, singing, painting and so on
  • Planning a bigger project work like to establish a vegetable garden or repair of playground equipment
  • Help to cook, feed the small kids, wash dishes, etc.
  • Organization of activities or excursions
  • Assistance and support with homework
