Plan recreational activities, teach English, do workshops and sports and help with the organization of the center
The volunteer program takes place in Cusco and some surrounding villages. Some institutions are financed by the government others, are private foundations. But the all depend on donations and the help of volunteers. Some organizations are flexible with work schedules so it is posible for the participants to work full time or part time. As a volunteer you are not required to have special skills or a professional background, but a positive attitude, a sensitivity to the backgrounds of the children and youth and patience are desirable. It is also a plus if you already speak Spanish.
The projects help children and teenagers from socially disadvantaged and poor families. The insitutions care for over a hundred children, between the 1 and 18 years. The kids come from different backgroudns, some are orphans, others have been living on the streets, there are also kids that have been abused or mistreated. All of them need a safe place to stay, which they find in the projects.
The projects give shelter, meals, medical care and clothing to the children and youth and they make sure that the children can receive education and physiologic attention in case its needed because of traumatic experiences (abuse, violence, etc.).
All of the social institutions provide an opportunity for education and new perspectives for a positive future for the kids.
