Caring, Mentoring and Playing with Children

A rescue centre for children under the age of 18 years in the upcounrty town of kisii.

This programme entails the volunteers working in a children's home in the town of kisii which is 4 or 5 hours away from the capital city of nairobi. The home acts as a school for early childhood development  (ECD ) and has school going kids up to grade 8,which is entry to secondary education in kenya. The little kids here need special care since some of them are as young as days year olds.

The volunteers work with caregivers at the home, social workers and teachers. This is tailored for guys who have an interest in education or languages or human development. The home is run by various partner organisations and donations from well wishers, we partner them since they offer our volunteers valuable lessons in taking care of the kids. Volunteers interested in behavioural studies of children also have an excellent opportunity to learn since the home has various cadres of children. The town of kisii is fairly urbanised and is served by tarmac roads, piped water, shopping malls, banks that support Visa or Mastercard, social amenities, stable 3G Internet in cyber café. This an opportunity for those willing to escape from the hassle of city life and want a quiet environment to volunteer in.

Volunteers have a responsibility of organising the classes, working with the teachers in preparing class notes, filling social work notes for family re integration, feeding the kids, playing and any other roles that might be assigned from day to day. This being an orphanage the surrounding areas are full of playing area, classes, kitchen and dormitories. You'll find teachers and social workers full time at the home. The basic day begins with prayers and songs then classwork, tea breaks, lunches, games time and cleaning time.
