The project

For this volunteer project you will be working with children in different organizations. You have the chance to work in a kindergarten, orphanage, day care center or an after school center.

Children in the kindergartens are usually 4 to 6 years of age, the main aim of these centers are to educate children in a safe environment, these centers work to develop childrens attitudes to responsibility, respect, creativity and security. There are also kindergartens that teach mental and physically disabled children. 

The children who attend the orphanages are 0 to 6 years of age and usually have been abandoned. The main objective of these institutions are to take care of the children giving them lots of attention while trying to find them a permanent home. 

Children who attend the day care centers can be aged between 1 and 6 years old. These centers hold around 30 children but these numbers vary, the children come to the day care center because their parents work very long or unusual hours in order to provide for them, these centers care for the children by feeding them and playing games. 

After school centers take care of up to 100 children from the age of 4 to 15 years old it offers free educational support such as help with homework or advice on problems and issues. 

These institutions are placed in Sucre which is very famous for its architecture and cultural richness.

Your work

In this project you have the choice to work in a kindergarten, an orphanage, a daycare center, or an after school center in Sucre. 

On an typical day your tasks will include: 

  • taking care of children, 
  • support teachers, 
  • organize educational games and activities, 
  • arts and crafts, 
  • teach basics such as numbers, 
  • help strenghten the confidence of the children, 
  • help with homework. 

Volunteers should keep in mind that these children usually come from poor and very difficult circumstances so one of the most important things to do is put a smile on their face.

Minimum Age
In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s).

Time Commitment
Your helping hand will be required on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 08:30 - 16:30

Free-time activities

In your spare time there are a wide range of activities to choose from, a lot of volunteers travel the city and the surrounding areas taking in its rich culture. There are a lot of hiking trails for visitors and also rock faces for climbers, there are many bars which you can socialize in with friends.

On this project you will be living with a Bolivian family where you can get to know the culture first hand and also enhance your spanish skills along the way, there is a laundry service at the house which is once a week.

You can volunteer at the project site in Sucre/Bolivia between 4 weeks and 25 weeks. Please note that the above shown program fees are estimated and subject to exchange rate fluctuations. South America Inside will tell you your final price during your application process.
Average Fees
Deposit (15%)
The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.
Final Payment (85%)
Your final payment will be agreed with South America Inside during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.
