Child Care Supporter

Assist teachers in everyday activities, create and play games, help feed children

The project

This project allows you to spend a few weeks on Galapagos Islands while volunteering in our volunteer child care program. The child care program on the islands were set up to care for children whos parents are unable to care for them during the day due to work commitments. This project ensures that the children are not left unattended and put in a safe caring environment, the age of children in these centres range from 1-3 years old with around 40-70 children in a centre.

The main priority of the project is to offer children a supportive service which helps with their educational, nutritional, and psychological needs. These centres are underfunded but despite this they create a friendly and warm atmosphere for the children who can play games and learn on a daily basis.

This program is perfect for people who love children, it is a unique experience where you get to see the difference you are making to the lives of the children and families in this stunning place.

Your work

When working you will be assisting in activties with the workers at the centers. The centers are very understaffed so there are often large groups of children supervised by one person this is why volunteers are so crucial.

On a typical day your day to day tasks will consist of assisting in educating children, creating and participating in games and activities, painting and other arts and crafts, as well as helping to feed the children and clean the area in which they play. It is vital for volunteers to act very responsible this is because the children will see you as a role model so they are asked to promote hygiene and good mannors.

The average working hours are 7:30 am to 1:00 pm this may vary depending on the center you work for. Normally volunteers have the afternoon off to explore or prepare activities for the next day.
