Care of infants and children, feed them, change diapers, play with kids, cleaning the rooms
Guatemala is a developing country in which more than 50% of the population lives in poverty and with more than a third of infants suffering from hunger and malnutrition. Every 4 children in 100 will not live until there first birthday.
This volunteer project supports malnourished children up to 11 years of age. The centre is located on the outskirts of Antigua, it was funded through donations and opened in 2008 with a fully equipped medical clinic, kitchen, dining room and bedrooms for more serious cases. The objective of this centre is to help reduce the amount of children who suffer from hunger. The center educates them on healthy nutrition and focuses them on having a carefree childhood.
Volunteers are a crucial part of this centre, without the help from people from all over the world the centre would not be able to operate at such a high level, which is required to provide children a normal life. This project is so rewarding as you get the chance to work against child poverty and help the future of the country.
In this project you will be caring for the welfare and the progress of the young patients at the centre. On a typical working day you will: change diapers and bathe the children, feed and play with them, help with educational activities and keep the center in good conditions which teach the children about cleaniness.
Redeveloping children is a difficult process and the most important thing to help with this recovery is love, this makes the children feel safe and forget about their troubles and gives them new hope.
In your free time there are a wide range of different activities to choose from such as touring the city visiting the different museums and monuments, there are also bars and restauraunts to socialize in.
In this project you will be staying with a host family this gives you the chance to taste typical meals and experience the life of a family in Guatemala. It also helps volunteers improve there spanish skills vastly. You will stay in a single bedroom and share bathroom and living areas with the family.
