Viva Tanzania

Children’s Foundation Supporter

Arusha, Tanzania show on map

Support a small Preschool and NGO, which aim it is to provide affordable education to children from difficult background.

The project

In Tanzania the children's education depends on the parents income. If parents are poor, there is basically no chance for the children to get a good education and a better life than their parents.

The Venance Care Foundation want to challenge this and is therefore located in a poor neighbourhood of Arusha.
Children from poor families are often not able to attend school due to school fees their parents cannot afford. Children with disabilities face stigmatization and rarely get the support they need. As an NGO Venance Care Foundation wants to help in the most long-lasting way: offering education. Thus, the foundation enables affordable access to education to children from difficult backgrounds and/or with disabilities. Since malnutrition is a large health risk in Tanzania, this organization provides a daily meal to its children. Additionally, by taking care of the children, the foundation enables their parents to work during the day.

Currently about 50 children at the age of 2 to 6 years are being taken care of. While being taught various school subjects they are devided in baby class and kindergarden.  In the Preschool you will support the teachers Angela and Tinah in their daily activities, teaching Maths, English, Science, Life skills, Sports, Handwriting, Phonics, Arts. Also you can do handi craft with the children and playing games. In the afternoon you will be working on the website as well as doing fundraising or marketing.

Your work

You can help the project by volunteering in teaching, preparation of lessons, writing homework in exercise books, individually teaching of single children, who have difficulties with a certain subject, playing with the kids, serving food, cleaning, adding new ideas for the lessons or the foundation itself, taking care of the social media presence such as fabebook, expanding the network of donors and helping with the NGO's farming project.

IMPORTANT: Work together with Venance and the teachers to see where your skills and knowledge can be used for the foundation or for their future. Ask them where your help is needed.

Typical day

In the morning you will leave the Volunteer House at 7:30am to make your 20 minutes way to the preschool by walking and public transport. The children will show up around 8:00 am and you will start wiith a warm up game and morning prayer before the first lesson starts at 8:30am. From then on you will assist the teachers during the lessons, conduct new games for the breaks and hand out the lunch at the end. You will supervise the children during playtime and until the parents come to pick them up. After school you can help cleaning the school, prepare lessons for the next day and sit together with the staff and discuss the day. Or you can work from your laptop in one of the nice internet cafes or in the hostel to update the social media accounts of Venance Care Foundation.
