Ireland is a wonderful country; it is safe, friendly, English speaking, rich in heritage, history and culture. From vibrant, exciting cities to spectacular countryside – it’s a magical place to visit. It’s also a wonderful place to stay and immerse yourself doing meaningful volunteer work.


CTL is placing international volunteers in a community Centre in the beautiful region of County Clare,  in a small friendly town, very close the famous cliffs of Moher in the West of Ireland. The project runs services such as youth clubs, homework clubs, childcare, community garden etc. The projects creates a friendly and caring atmosphere and support the growth of a strong inclusive community. The centre is run by experienced professionals supported by local volunteers. Volunteers can get involved in various activities depending on their skills, interests and time of the year.

Minimum commitment:  6 weeks for programmes running in June-July , 12 weeks the other months

Volunteer work

The main role of the volunteers is to assist project staff in running the activities with children, young people and community members.

Volunteers can help in a number of areas:

  • Helping children with homework
  • Assisting staff in carrying out activities with young people
  • Helping in the community garden
  • Assist with administrative tasks

Please note that homework club and youth clubs are not running during school holidays.

During school holidays such as in July, the main activities are the summer camps and the community garden.


Main activities of the centre include:

Youth Clubs

Several youth club are run within the centre such as a film club, a soccer club, a music club or a “youth shack” project (games, entertainment etc.)

Homework Club

The centre runs three homework club sessions per week targeting refugee children and children from the Traveller community.

Community Garden

The centre runs a community garden which offers the opportunity for groups and individuals to get involved in gardening and vegetable growing activities.

Summer Camps

From May to July, the centre runs summer camps with children and young people, activities include games, sports etc.


The childcare project welcomes children from 1 to 12 years old who are cared for by dedicated and qualified staff.


Who are we looking for

This project is searching for friendly, energetic, outgoing, open-minded and team-focused people with a genuine interest in working with people, particularly with young people and children. Volunteers need to have some experience working with children or teenagers. Flexibility and reliability are other important skills. Working with children and young people can be very tiring, that’s why volunteers need to be self-motivated and full of energy! Volunteers joining the project should have at least an intermediate level of spoken English. Programmes are available from Sept. to July

Arrival in Cork airport:

Participants are picked up by a driver who will be waiting with a sign displaying the participants’ name. Participants are transferred to a hostel, located in Cork city centre.

Arrival at different airport

Volunteers who arrived at a different airport (Dublin, Shannon, Kerry, Waterford) need to make their own way to Cork. It is very easy to join Cork city from Dublin airport as there are buses from just outside the arrival terminal in Dublin that go directly to Cork city centre. Detailed information on transfers to Cork will be provided by CTL Ireland.

First day and Overnight in Cork city

Volunteers stay at a pre-booked hostel for their first night in Cork city. The hostel is located in the city centre, a very short walk from all the shops and attractions of the city. After checking in, participants have some free time to rest and to discover Cork city. A welcome dinner is generally organised on the first night.

Second Day: Orientation and Transfer to Project

On the morning of their second day, participants will take part in a comprehensive orientation workshop which lasts 3 to 4 hours followed by a walking tour. Participants are then transferred to their project by public transportation.

Free-time activities

Volunteers have two days off per week. During their free time, volunteers can explore County Clare which combines spectacular landscapes and vibrant Irish culture.  With the glorious UNESCO Burren and Cliff of Moher Geopark, award winning Loop Head peninsula, historic towns of Ennis, Bunratty, splendid rivers and lakes, surfing spots of Lahinch, County Clare provides an environment of choice. County Clare is also the place where Irish culture and music flourish, and this is not just for tourists. In larger towns and even the tiniest of villages you'll find pubs with traditional music sessions year-round.


Program Requirements

In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.

Required Documents
CV, medical certificate and criminal background check and references might be required (on experience with children and teenagers)
Nationality Restrictions
No restrictions. Helping hands from all over the world are welcome.
Other Skills
Experience working with children and young people is necessary, Flexible, adaptable, self-motivated, at least intermediate level of English. Participants should have some previous experience of community or social involvement in their own community.
Time Commitment
Your helping hand will be required on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 09:00 - 16:00

Airport Pickup at Cork Airport
Pick up is included for participants arriving in Cork airport. Participants arriving in another airport will be provided with all necessary information.
Volunteers will live in local host family accommodation allowing you to get a real sense of life in an Irish family and community. Meals will be provided along with a packed lunch as needed. Host families are based within walking distance of the project or near a public transport that allow the volunteer to reach the project easily. Family come in all shapes and sizes (e.g. parents and children, single host mother etc.)
Bedroom (Single)
Food & Beverages
Host family provide breakfast (cereals or toasts, hot drink etc.), pack lunch (sandwiches, fruit etc.) and hot dinner in the evening (e.g. pasta, sausages, potatoes, pizza etc.). It is possible to cater for vegetarians.

Good access at the project site
What's NOT included?
Visa, flights, travel insurance or vaccinations are NOT included in the program fees.
Flight Tickets
The nearest airport is Cork Airport (ORK) in Cork. We assist you to find cheap flights to Ireland.
Travel Insurance
Going abroad is an adventure and it is always best to be prepared. Sudden illness or injury, cancellation or theft - a travel insurance for Ireland provides security and is a plus to have.
If you are intending to volunteer in Ireland you should seek medical advice before starting your social journey. Check your required vaccinations for Ireland.

You can volunteer at the project site in Ennistimon/Ireland between 6 weeks and 16 weeks. Please note that the above shown program fees are estimated and subject to exchange rate fluctuations. CTL Ireland will let you know about the final price during your application process.
Crowdfunding Service
Generally, volunteering abroad involves certain costs. In case you need financial support, we will assist you to fundraise your volunteer program in Ireland.
Deposit (15%)
The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.
Final Payment (85%)
Your final payment will be agreed with CTL Ireland during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.
