The project

Poverty is a major issue in Guatemala with many families living in small fragile huts and parents not being able to sufficiently provide for their children.

For a number of years, private organizations have committed to these issues to improve the situation in Guatemala. Many projects are based on the support of volunteers, this is why more are needed to help improve the living conditions in Guatemala.

This project was founded in 1991, with its main objective to help people in need. The project is based on the outskirts of Antigua there is a school,  offices, an event room and a clinic where families can receive free medical care from.

In addition to financial resources, the help of volunteers is especially needed to constantly maintain the work and advance the living conditions of the area’s residents.

Your work

During your time at this project you will be supporting the work of a community development centre on the outskirts of Antigua. The program has grown a considerable amount over the last 20 years to a fully operative organization with a wide range of activities.

There are many different areas which require volunteers help such as education/teaching, building and construction, health, technical support, or family development/community work. The sector you get assigned to will vary on different factors such as previous experience and knowledge of spanish. You can discuss your personal interests with the on site volunteer coordinator.

The jobs will vary from sector to sector, for example in building and construcion you will be helping to improve buildings and houses within the community, while people in education and teaching will be teaching english, and assisting teachers in classrooms. Volunteers in community development will help with work within the community to make it a better place and health volunteers will be working within the hospital.
